Lori,

You are very brave! Removing the finish and stain will be a huge job. Good Luck!

We don’t intend to do it ourselves. Hiring a professional to do it.

Eh? Painted cabinets costing more and being hard to touch up... both cons go completely out the window if you DIY. Painting basic cabinets yourself is often much cheaper than buying a decent looking stained wood.

I have such a hard time deciding between the two. Wood is so cozy and inviting, but I mean... I could have pink or aqua cabinets if I went with paint. I could go with wood cabinets and pink ceramic tile on the counters and backsplash, but would chrome contrast too much with the wood? If I went with a super smooth, glossy painted pink on the cabinets, I could do an aqua and beige Formica countertop with chrome accents and just take the Formica up the wall part of the way. But would my aqua small appliances and utensils and the like look right on top of an aqua and beige countertop?

These are the questions that keep me up at night. :P
