The homeowners approached Priya Lakhotia Parikh, founder and principal designer at Chicago Studio with a unique request. “They wanted a home without handles on the doors and windows. Other prerequisites were plenty of storage, free thoroughfare and a minimalist decor with emphasis on camouflaging,” says Parikh. Keeping this in mind, she designed this Santacruz home with clean-lined interiors, well-lit spaces and a tone-on-tone colour scheme.

The entryway opens into a vestibule, which doubles as a waiting area. “Camouflage doors are the highlight of the foyer and provide an elongated look,” says Parikh.

While the frosted glass obscures visibility, it allows light to filter through. A touch of transparent glass in the middle gives a sneak peek of the living room.
The foyer leads into an open-plan living and dining room layered in undertones of pale grey and vanilla. Curved sofas, Botticino marble flooring and metal accents lend a touch of grandeur to the room.

Recessed lights in the faux ceiling and elegant wall moulding bring in a contemporary, minimalist aesthetic. Walnut-wood walls and doorways with camouflaged finishes tie the spaces together.

A mirror-panelled wall serves as a backdrop for the dining area and creates the illusion of a bigger space. It is flanked by a walnut-wood sliding door on one side and a hidden crockery unit on the other. Like the rest of the home, this sliding unit has a seamless finish without handles. The wooden panelling, upholstered chairs and marble-topped table set up a warm and inviting dining room.

The narrow TV room is a cosy getaway for the entire family. The wall with moulding has a camouflaged niche for the projector. A Chesterfield sofa in leather finish and a grid-style luminaire on the ceiling offset the linearity of this room, giving it a cosy feel.
Folding doors with metal casing and fluted glass demarcate the living room from the den without interrupting the light and thoroughfare.
Wood-framed windows and a wooden false ceiling above the Chesterfield sofa imbue a sense of warmth to the den. Tall stools with cane details lend an eclectic touch to the decor.

Adhering to the homeowners’ request for minimal design elements, the focal point of this spot is a curved Pinakin sofa and a live-edge coffee table.
The son’s bedroom has a pastel colour scheme with hints of black on the side table. The grey built-in wardrobe with gilded knobs exudes a timeless vintage vibe. A tufted accent wall doubles as a headboard and adds to the vertical depth of the room.
The attached bathroom has a retro feel with a classic black-and-white chequered floor and veined marble on the walls. The angled placement of the mirror gives the illusion of expanse.
In the guest bedroom, the sinuous winged headboard and beige satin-striped accent wall create a layered vignette. The side tables have a mirror finish, providing a hint of bling. Built-in cabinetry in the window niche accentuates the understated hues of this room.
With a neutral colour palette and wooden grid ceiling, the master bedroom spells tranquility and serenity. The textured polyurethane (PU) paint and tufted grey dado create visual interest in the wall and introduce a subtle tactile element.
An interesting interplay of shapes and patterns defines the powder room, with an oval mirror juxtaposed with geometrical tiles. The earthy terrazzo tiles underscore the minimalistic interiors of this modern bathroom.
