The interiors of the existing home, located in Versova, lacked a bright and airy feel because the apartment above had a terrace that restricted natural light. Anjali Rawat, principal architect and founder of Anjali Rawat Architects, resolved this issue by creating a warm and inviting home with an open, functional layout and softly lit spaces.

“We have chosen a neutral colour palette with subtle hints of statement features through the artwork and furnishing,” says Rawat. “We had a tough time convincing the client to go for an open layout but they eventually agreed.”
The main door opens into a small foyer, which further leads to the living room. Framed by a distinctive marble accent wall, a curved sofa in muted pastel hues stands against the wall.

The open-plan layout leads to the dining room in a nude colour scheme, with a veneer accent wall and veneer-top dining table. Along with wall-to-wall windows, the mirrors on the ceiling add to the sense of expanse in this space. Recessed lights and a chandelier create a layered lighting scheme to soften the ambience.

Abutting the living room is a balcony in muted hues, accentuated with customised furniture and a splash of greenery in stylish planters. The glass balustrades let in light and views. The designers used the same stone on the coffee table as on the floor, to give continuity to the design narrative.

“While all the bedrooms are designed in a minimal, sophisticated and elegant way, the master bedroom has a touch of taupe which energises the mood in a neutral manner,” says Rawat.

The wall opposite the bed has a wardrobe with sliding doors.
The third bedroom features an aubergine coloured bed with a curved headboard. The patterned accent wall and light set up a layered vignette.
A layered scheme of white and beige marble, set off by gold tiles on the splashback wall, make this spot shine.
In the guest bedroom, the muted colour palette is interspersed with pops of colour through the art on the walls. The rich brown flooring imbues a touch of glamour to the clean-lined interiors.
Richly streaked white marble and the more subtly grained brown variety perpetuate the tones of the bedroom.
