“As a young couple with modern tastes, the clients envisioned a contemporary aesthetic, set against a neutral palette with generous infusions of grey and beige. It had to portray their wild and adventurous side and play host to a cornucopia of materials, shapes and colours. Clean lines, statement walls and unusual designs became the home’s defining features,” says Aarti Somani, co-founder and chief interior designer of a&k Design Studio.

The dining room is separated from the foyer by a sequence of brass-finish oblong screens inlaid with fluted glass. Here, tropical elements in the way of bottle-green chairs, a rain-forest artwork and a rush-upholstered bench conjure an airy, unfussy vibe.
The dining table sports a black-and-white marble tabletop, spotlighted by a golden cluster chandelier above. A wall-mounted bench flanks the table on one side, while a trio of chairs lines up along the other.
A sable and grey palette, accentuated by delicate golden frames and accents, dominates the living room (situated beyond the dining room). Grey marble, emblazoned with brass inlays, clads the floor, while black wall panels provide an interplay with the ash-grey shell. An ivory-hued sofa and tufted armchairs complete the seating area, facing the television unit on the wall opposite.
“The television unit is the highlight of the living room. It is enhanced with a dual-metal front and backlighting,” says Kruti Sheth, chief interior designer and co-founder with Somani.
Fringing the unit to the right, is a floating bar cabinet, which blends into the design in a seamless manner.

Grey sliding doors part to reveal a kitchen with beige cabinetry and a patterned floor. A mushroom backsplash furthers the muted palette.
“The kitchen was optimised with clever design interventions. For example, we converted it into a semi-open space with glass shutters to amp up the natural light and to blur the boundary separating the living room,” explains Sheth.

The master bedroom is distinguished by beige walls and splashes of monochrome. Suspended pendants ornament either side of the bed, highlighting the tufted headboard in between.

In the master bathroom, a ridged grey backsplash rises up to the ceiling, serving as a contrast to the eggshell-toned sink and pint-sized planters. Grey drawers offer storage under the sink.

In the son’s bedroom, a chevron-panelled floor underpins a bunk bed on one side (seen in the next photo) and a pale-blue study zone on the other. A vanilla wardrobe flanks the desk to the left.
“The bunk bed has a secret storage staircase, designed to make organising fun,” says Somani.

The son’s bathroom is defined by a grey backsplash with annular motifs. White fittings offset the darkness of colour, while a circular mirror adds to the curvilinear theme.
