Modern Icons: The Cherner Chair
The Cherner Chair was designed by Norman Cherner in 1958 for Plycraft. It's a molded plywood chair with an elegant, bent-hourglass shape. In 1999, his sons Benjamin and Thomas Cherner formed The Cherner Chair Company and re-released their father's designs with tradition and sustainability in mind (more on that later). If you are searching for a way to introduce some iconic mid-century style into your home, consider a Cherner Chair.
The Cherner Chair fits into all kinds of decor. Here they enhance modern cottage style.
This is my dream dining room. The designer, Rachel Reider, has utilized the Cherner armchair at the head of the table, Cherner side chairs and a Cherner dining table. The room is fresh and contemporary but gets its mid-century vibe from the Cherner furniture.
There is also a barstool version of the Cherner chair, and you can opt for seat pads as well. You may choose to upholster the seat, the back, or both.
Here the Cherners fit right into an eclectic, vintage modern dining room.
Today's Cherner chairs are "hand assembled from woods collected form sustainably managed forests and with 100% recyclable steel with 25% recycled content." All of its parts can be replaced and repaired, so that the chairs can be handed down for generations.
Here the shapely silhouettes are paired with a chunky wood table.
White barstools are sleek and very chic. Note that they do not overwhelm the kitchen island.
There are a variety of finishes available. To learn more about the options, visit The Cherner Chair Company.
There are also metal-base versions of the chair available.
