Mini Trend: Rich Textures, Dark Florals With a Vintage Vibe
Not all of us love to live the minimal life; some prefer florals, textures and a vintage vibe
So, I started searching for inspiration. While there are lots of examples from historic homes and lovely old black-and-white houses, there wasn’t a lot to see in modern decor.
Luckily for me, designers are using jewel tones on walls, and Ikea’s newest collection, released in October 2018, are heavy on dark florals, textured fabrics and an old-world style.

“The rich materials and colours featured in our Launch 2 collection are dramatic, loud and bold,” explains April Kwan, Activity Leader at Ikea Southeast Asia.
The brand is offering up floral print sofas and cushions, tartan print lampshades, dark textured throws and rugs, as well as some more lighthearted floral prints on small homewares.
“This retro furniture style is one-of-a-kind and also a great way to personalise your home, just the way you want it,” says Kwan.

These Singapore homeowners and interior designers have caught on quick as you can see:
Get the look: The mix of dark paint, botanical and floral prints, plus antiqued metal finishes fit the vintage vibe.
Get the look: A more ‘colonial’ or look combined with modern furniture for the main pieces and antique for the sidekicks.
Get the look: This daringly black wainscotting is actually in a HDB flat!
Get the look: Decorative cornice, herringbone timber flooring and richly coloured curtains.
Get the look: If blowsy roses and peonies are too ‘Western’ for you, try tropical prints in with same decadent look.

I used to be obsessed with #allwhiteeverything and clean lines; but I have to say that I eventually realised I am not a minimalist.
It’s down to practicality –, I need to live with plenty of texture (to hide the dust) and dark colours (to conceal stains).
