I'm moving in a new place with friends. we're renting out a whole house. my room is going to be in the basement. problem is, is that the basement is just as everyother typical basement. open, few support from ground up. I'm looking to better the basement but I'm on limited income. so I was wondering what I could do just to make a average small-medium sized bedroom first before anything else is done in basement. walls are white (but dirty) I believe two drains in basement incase of flood or water leakage.

Great advise Bud and as a basement designer, I'd like to add; have a plan in place first before building walls or at the least, to get bids with. I also wanted to point out what code is for ceiling heights according to IRC as some local building departments don't adopt these codes. I show the following on all my plans.
