Simone's Painting and Renovations

We helped my daughter upgrade her small kitchen and she had no budget. The only item we used that was new was the faucet. Everything else was found as discards or salvaged from jobs or was bound for the landfill, including the paint.

Way too much is thrown out when it still has some life in it. She now has a granite counter top, for nothing. Beat that.

I absolutely agree that too much is thrown away. Designers and architects should be looking to reuse or repurpose clients own materials in new ways, especially when tasked with working on sustainable projects. I know profit is often at the forefront of the business model, but until firms consider this approach, it will be tough to get the younger generation, currently priced out of the housing market, to work with firms, and instead go it alone, choosing to source material and furnishings themselves.
