The annual Best of Houzz awards recognise the top-rated home pros and most popular designs on Houzz, by category and area, across the country and around the world. And with 2020 winners being tallied through December, there’s still time to set yourself up to earn one of these impressive green badges for your hard work this year – and plan ahead for the next round of awards.
Studio Hu’māne
Studio Humane won a Best of Houzz Design award for this photo in 2019. All the room and landscape photos in this story are from 2019 Best of Houzz winners.

Early in the new year, winners will be announced in the categories of Design, Service and Photography – chosen by the Houzz community of millions of homeowners.

Here are a few details on the awards and a few pointers on how you and your work can earn a coveted badge in 2020.

Best of Houzz Service

Best of Houzz Service awards are judged on such factors as a pro’s overall rating and client reviews submitted during the year. Since there’s more than a month left in 2019, you can still improve your chances of winning in 2020.

Pros on Houzz need at least one client review from a project completed in the year under consideration to qualify for a Best of Houzz Service award. So by encouraging your happy customers to talk you up using the Get Reviews link on your profile page, you can boost the chances of your work being recognised with an award.

Best of Houzz Design

The next category, Best of Houzz Design, celebrates home professionals whose work was most popular among Houzz users in the past year. That means photos of their work garnered the most user engagement and ideabook saves, among other things. This photo, for example, was chosen as a Best of Houzz winner in 2019, as were the other photos in this story.

If you’re not doing so already, upload new project photos as soon as you have them. That will set you up for getting the most ideabook saves this year and in future years.

Other best practices also can improve your chances of winning. Adding keywords and topics to newly uploaded photos, for instance, can make them more searchable and therefore more popular among Houzz users.

Best of Houzz Photography

Photographers can earn Best of Houzz recognition as well, in the form of a Best of Houzz Photography badge. These badges are given to architecture and interior design photographers whose images were most popular on Houzz during the year.

These awards are tallied in the same manner as the Design awards, and the same considerations and tips apply. This includes starting to upload photos early in the year and adding the proper keywords and topics.

How Best of Houzz Badges Work

Winners’ Best of Houzz badges automatically appear on their Houzz profile pages. Winners are encouraged to share the good news with their larger network and potential future clients. High-resolution versions of badges are available to use in marketing materials.

Winners also receive an email with a full promotional kit that helps them get the most exposure for their award.

The Best of the Best

Though we don’t publish a list of all winners, 2020 winners’ work will appear in a Houzz photo gallery. The images can be filtered by country, metro area and room type. You can also spot winners by checking out Houzz profile pages and looking for the badges.

Only a little more than 3% of Houzz’s 2.4 million-plus active home pros win each year. In many cases, that means the winning photos garnered thousands or even tens of thousands of ideabook saves. In other words, Best of Houzz winners are pros and designs that seriously wow the Houzz community.
