Can't agree more about the importance of lighting especially where you're working. When renovating our kitchen we had down lights installed over the island bench which are on a dimmer switch. They're great for lighting the work surface and at the end of the day we turn the lights down which signals to our three teenage boys that the "Kitchen is Closed"! We were also lucky to have enough space in the wall cavity behind the stove to incorporate a display shelf which is lit by the built in range hood. So now the kitchen has good task lighting and also mood lighting to boot!

#2 - The dark scallops at the top make the hall look like a tunnel. Improve by using linear wall washers and then slightly brighter spot lights on the art.

#7 - Maybe it was the designer's intent, but I don't like the mish-mash of scallops and the two different colors of light. The high temp light next to the fireplace cancels out the warmth of the flames. Glare on the sofa table is bad enough, but two different colors of glare makes for a room that is uncomfortable to my eyes.

#3 - Excellent.
