It never seems to get mentioned but many of the basins shown have almost flat bottoms and I suspect a ‘corner’ where it meets the wall of the basin. This shape takes a lot of water to fill to a usable depth doesn’t drain particularly well and isn’t as easy to clean as a conventional bowl shape. It looks modern so it appeals to purchasers - in my view that is it’s only plus point!

As is so often the case, I've seen countless victims of interiors "fashion" fall for the flat-bottomed basin mounted on top of some sort of vanity/other unit/surface. If that surface is anything other than something super-practical it looks terrible in no time at all. Worst of all is wood and yet people still do it - weird! We did a deal with a local household waste site years ago when we wanted to get rid of an old free-standing fire-grate. They took the grate and we had two lovely vintage basins. My husband then made individual vanity units out of oak for our lovely new bathroom (5.5 years ago now!). I still love it though. Each unit had to be made to accommodate some very "wonky" basins (one in particular) as in the 1940's/50's when they were knocking these things out by the millions, the production methods weren't always the best, so he had a lot of work to do to make one of them fit. I love the result, though and you don't have those really annoying mixer taps right in the middle to either bang your head on or get in the way. Separate taps are SO much better.

A heated bathroom mirror is a must for me. Then it doesn't get steamed up. Also one with a magnified bit for close up when doing makeup.
