It was hard to miss seeing all the pictures of the grand Bollywood weddings that recently rocked the Indian subcontinent. If there’s one topic that’s lingered on, it’s fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee and his marvellous couture, worn by most of the high-profile brides. From actor Anushka Sharma’s unforgettable pink lehenga to the much-talked about hand-painted and hand-embroidered scarlet ghagra worn by Deepika Padukone and a tailored ensemble consisting of red and gold brocade sherwani worn by Ranveer Singh … the designer’s flamboyant, bold and bright costumes added a special glow to the stars’ big day. Of course, wedding trousseaus aside, the designer is known for his graceful Banarasi silk, brocade and bandhani saris that are an integral part of his versatile collections.

Deep red
In recent times, especially, the designer’s many wedding creations showcase a beautiful affair of bright colours with rich Indian textiles. Solid deep reds and maroons take over as the base hue, embellished with gold or silver to add to the royal look.

Consider giving your home a grand, larger-than-life feel too, just like Sabyasachi’s clothes. Take this majestic living room, for instance. While the walls are awash in dark red paint, giving this room a standout quality, the brown furniture helps tone down the stark effect of the hue.

Shimmering gold
The designer’s couture shows the use of unusual fabrics juxtaposed with brilliant gold embellishments that create a riot of colours and textures which are a treat for the eyes. From shimmering gota work to sequins and elaborate gold threadwork, the shining colour helps give a lift to his outfits.

Using gold in interiors can be tricky – the idea is to use it either as an accent feature, on upholstery or by sprinkling it throughout the space through accessories. Here, the four-poster bed and the backlit panel shine with gold, while the wooden flooring adds warmth to the scheme.

Tip: If you aren’t entirely sure about using gold liberally in your home, you can heighten the ambience of the space with the golden glow of indirect light. It could be incorporated in the ceiling, wall panelling or even within a raised wooden floor.

Giving a break from the usual reds, pinks and blues, Sabyasachi has experimented with trousseaus, jackets and anarkalis and achkans bathed, embroidered or printed in aqua and teal.

Consider bringing in this hue via wallpapers, paints or furnishings. Teal has inherent modern chops and can inject a sophisticated, luxurious tone to a space. In this bedroom, the teal wallpaper is complemented with gold detailing that enhances the colour even more.

Tip: Teal, which is a mixture of blue and green, is a deep colour with a distinctive appearance that usually goes well with other bright tones, such as gold. As long as the proportions of hues are balanced, the result can be eye-catching.

Purple pairs with loads of great palettes, making it a versatile hue. If it’s an extravagant look you’d like, then you can go all out with purple fabrics (as seen here), with purple walls and ceiling. The wooden flooring and the blue side table add a slight contrast to the uniform scheme.

Bright pink
From pink brocade cholis, to rani-pink panelled lehengas, rose tulle dupattas enhanced with beaten silver sequins to deep-pink anarkalis … the designer’s love for pink is evident through his vast designs.

Those looking to have a slice or a whole lot of pink in their home can experiment with not just paints, fabrics and accessories, but even pink marble. Here, a layering of pink takes over the room, with pink chairs and wallpaper. The space pulsates with a grand look.

Hi, since long I'm the subscriber and going thru all HOUZ news letters and new ideas. I like the Houz design most. Now I'm constructing the kitty party hall, and wanted to design as per HOUZ designs at Ropar near to Chandigarh Punja, Appreciate the efforts toguide in this regard......looking ahead for your kind response.
