The homeowners approached Fadd Studio co-founders, Farah Ahmed and Dhaval Shellugar, to build a holiday home that reflected their stories and travels. “They wanted a house that showcased their international sensibilities but also generously highlighted their own quirks. They wanted a place that provided a canvas for experimentation, invoked their emotions and celebrated nature, beauty, and imagination,” says Ahmed.

A pergola and rectangular tiles visually frame the pathway to the house, which is bordered by foliage and an art piece.

In the foyer, Prussian-blue double doors, dark-grey flooring and a grey bench give continuity to the exterior colour scheme.

The foyer opens into the living room where geometric patterns catch the eye. The asymmetric pattern on the flooring is punctuated in shades of blue, peach and grey. Angular sofas and chairs create a cohesive interior. The narrow slatted pinewood ceiling draws the eye upwards and accentuates the geometric design narrative.

“Designed by Philippe Starck, a fascinating lamp – composed of an umbrella perched above a chandelier and with a boxing bag [seen in previous picture] for counterweight – quizzically anchors the main living set-up,” says Shellugar.
A ceramic installation by Vinod Daroz is the pièce de résistance of the living room.
“The home is a work of art in itself. It takes a step back and plays the role of the perfect canvas for the other works of art that the clients admire and wish to surround themselves with,” adds Shellugar.

One can access the spacious open-plan kitchen from the living room.
The modular kitchen by Eggersmann features a kitchen island with stovetop.

With seating for two, this eat-in kitchen makes the most of the views and the natural light streaming in. Branching ceiling lights above the table add to the ambience.
Asymmetrical-pattern flooring in shades of grey and blue resonates the colour scheme of the kitchen cabinetry. “The unique floor was customised and designed on the top level in the angles that we wanted. Then we tediously put together each tile (which was already a fixed design) of 8-by-8 inches into a grid to ensure all the lines matched up. It was a complicated jigsaw-puzzle-like effort,” says Ahmed.
Next to the kitchen is a dining area. In this area, the slatted ceiling curves and fluidly comes down to create an accent wall.
Apart from the handles, the doors with no visible hinges provide a sense of uninterrupted flow to the passages.
In the TV room, the earthiness of the flooring and beams is offset by the warm accents of the wooden ceiling. Interlined curtains provide privacy and control the light.

The master bedroom exudes understated grandeur with a wood-rafter ceiling and cement flooring. Metallic accents of the four-poster bed, bedroom bench and pendant lamps instil a sense of elegance.

A unique bathtub sits in the middle of the spacious master bathroom and anchors the decor. His and hers vanities and a dresser offer functionality and style. Panels of artwork stand on a display frame in front of the niche at left, reflected in the mirror of the dresser in front of the niche opposite.

Geometric shapes abound in the bathroom, with patterned niches and backsplashes, slatted metallic ceiling and square floor tiles. The raised dark brown platform adds to the design thread and delineates zones.
“The guest bedrooms sport pastel colour palettes that are soft and wintry,” says Shellugar.
A round metal-framed mirror is linked with miniature versions in an arrangement that makes a functional art installation.
In this guest room, hues of pinks in the velvet-upholstered bed and dresser contrast with the surrounding grey palette.
The guest bathroom features a floor of patterned hexagonal tiles that suggest a honeycomb patchwork quilt flung on the ground. Their muted greys and pinks get a pop of fresh contrast from an aqua vanity with a fish-scale pattern.
The multi-patterned chevron tile flooring is the focal point of this bathroom. A sleek white tub sits next to the floor-to-ceiling window with blinds for privacy.
“The curved slatted design work serves as a rich backdrop for the interplay of light and shadow coming in from the deck and swimming-pool area,” says Ahmed. “It is one of the best design features of the home and adds a tactile element that is definitely theatrical, and yet somehow doesn’t hop over to the category of chaotic,” she adds.
An outdoor swimming pool completes the holiday home feel.

Prussian-blue columns support the roof of the semi-covered patio. The U-shaped sofa and a coffee table set up an inviting outdoor lounge.
