“The client was keen on a space that allowed easy transition from the city to a vacation home.” Following the owners’ brief, Anjali Mody, founder of JOSMO, designed this North Goa home with all the trappings and comforts of a city residence; a home that turned out to be an extension of their existing lifestyle. Mody says, “The biggest challenge came from making the space come alive within fixed limitations.”
With limited changes that could be made architecturally, “the interiors come alive with a muted palette interspersed with pops of colour, contemporary art, comfortable furniture, and soft-textured furnishings. The large windows invite the best of both worlds, opening out onto a flourishing lawn and pool on the ground floor, and views of the Arabian Sea on the next floor.”

The entrance opens into a short passageway that leads to a dining room flooded with natural light. The wooden dining table is flanked by minimal-looking dining chairs upholstered in grey, and is lit by a three-armed lighting fixture. This, along with the muted palette consisting of mints and greys with a dash of ash wood, gives the room a modern but warm vibe.
The space to the right of the entrance tucks away a bedroom, converted into a study.

The dining room overlooks a sunken living room that opens onto a pool deck and large veranda. Full-length windows let in swathes of natural light, enough to illuminate the large volume of space comprising the living and dining areas.

A striking indigo accent wall characterises the living room. It is hung with an eye-catching abstract image, the colours of which are reflected in the large blue-and-white striped jute rug.

The living room’s pale hues are brightened up by a large tan sofa that runs the length of the wall that divides the living area from the dining. At the far end of the room the TV sits on a wooden console that brings warmth and colour to the corner.

On the first floor, a contemporary four-poster bed dominates the master bedroom, a space awash in soft, natural notes. “Cane textures and a minimal striped carpet add textural drama to the space,” says Mody.
The bedroom, like all the others, has its own private balcony with stunning views of the sea beyond.

The guest bedroom, on the same floor, breaks away from the beige hues of the rest of the house by wearing baby-blue colours. The “colonial-chic inspired bedroom” as the designer calls it, is appointed with all-white furnishings, setting it apart from the other rooms.

The third bedroom reverts to the earthy palette that permeates the whole house. The Africa-inspired wooden headboard is a stand-out piece, complemented by a taupe jute rug.

A private space on the first floor, tucked away from the main community area, is furnished with a pale-blue sofa and wooden accents that transform it into a cosy space, perfect to catch up on some reading or …napping.
