I live in a house that's 160 years old with 15 feet high ceilings. I found that not height alone, but space, a lot of square feet of floor with ample natural light creates the right ambience. A dark, small, high ceiling only instills fear.

Old colonial constructions across India, converted into PWD guest houses and circuit houses offer the wonder, delight and enjoyment of sun filled rooms with high ceilings, tall windows and a fan whirring somewhere far above. One just walks taller in such rooms.

Though if you are in Northern India, then grapple with heating these rooms in winters and cooling in our hot summers.

Many a times have gazed at the high ceiling while lying in bed and heard the gentle thud of a lizard falling - ‘it fell to earth, I know not where!’
