What beautiful rooms which for me is a huge problem. I am not sure how many of us have such expansive rooms with those ceiling heights and the bucks to coordinate colors, textures, pattern etc. What happens if your living room is not able to accommodate 2 10 foot sofas, or you don't have a stairway to heaven. What if your living room is 13 x11. Then what. Do these rules still apply. I have a friend who has the best taste. She pullls things together like a pro. But her space is teeny tiny and her idea of balance is knee knocking, toe stubbing. She needs to edit but when she edits her place looks sparse and cold. So for me clearly her taste is great and meant for a bigger space but she does her best with what she has. How do you make these rules apply to micro apartments? As for me I have a townhome and unless I am sitting on a diamond mine, I cannot remove walls to get the feel as depicted in those photos.

I appreciate the Japanese take on this idea. Symmetry rarely occurs in nature.
