“The owners wanted the home designed in a way such that each member would have their own private quarters. The bungalow was, thus, constructed like a C, and divided into suites, connected via a common corridor. A large landscaped lawn occupies the central cavity,” says Ekta Khanna, founder and chief interior designer of Ekta Khanna Design Studio. Each suite is self-sufficient, with its own dedicated lounge, bedrooms, washrooms and even a kitchen. “The sons’ suites are tailored to meet the needs of their future families.”

Solid-wood double doors welcome visitors into a stately foyer, dominated by a wood-and-monochrome palette. Black diamonds emblazon the alabaster-hued floor, underpinning the muted antique-style furniture.

The curvilinear arch guides visitors into the formal living room. Here, a melange of finishes – by way of a grid-patterned grey William and black Marquino floor, stippled walls and a wood-panelled ceiling – weave a diverse visual tapestry.
Natural light is a staple, facilitated by the ceiling-high windows (a signature feature of the home, as you will soon see).
“The homeowners preferred easy-to-maintain finishes for their coffee tables, and hence, most tables have either a glass or marble top. We have also used a lot of dark-walnut veneer and black-and-white PU finishes,” says Khanna.

A wooden display unit, showcasing tchotchkes and artefacts, separates the dining room from the living room. In the dining area, an oval ten-seater table, sporting an ebony veneer top, takes pride of place. Chairs dressed in a printed fabric add a tactile quality to the hard-surfaced cocoon.

A lobby leads into a puja room, designed with a dainty floral pistachio-tinted wallpaper and a marble altar. The floor and walls perpetuate the marble aesthetic, while a brass lamp and a copper-toned credenza add touches of metallic shine to the all-white palette.

A circulation passage acts as the gateway to the guest bedrooms, the two master suites (one for the couple and one for the parents), the inner courtyard, the main kitchen, the family lounge, and the two sons’ living suites. Here, deep-grey marble characterises the main flooring, while black Marquino and Swiss white marble define the inlays at larger junctions.

“The corridor is perhaps the most intriguing part of the house, with tall glazed windows on both sides and links to all the individual suites. The circulation is planned in such a way that the house doesn’t reveal itself completely, but unfolds slowly as one moves along the corridor,” Khanna says.

Much of the homeowners’ antique furniture, their collection of Pichvai paintings and old artefacts have been restored and displayed along the corridor and connecting lobbies.
The family lounge marks the heart of the home and serves as a space for the family to gather in the evenings and during holidays. An interplay of light oak and white veneer clads the surfaces, providing a minimalist shell for the green velvet upholstery and mustard-yellow curtains. A seating area – consisting of a green sectional and two armchairs – highlights the centre of the room.
“The family loves to entertain and there are several areas throughout the house to cater to gatherings of various sizes. The aesthetic was conceived keeping relaxation in mind,” says Khanna.

In the first master bedroom, a wallpaper with a scarlet and grey pattern covers the feature wall (behind the bed). White wooden chandeliers flank the bed, adding ornate detail to the decor. The window is veiled by cream floor-to-ceiling curtains and tufted armchairs.

A scalloped screen frames the wall opposite the bed, demarcating the private lounge from the slumber zone.
The grandparents’ bedroom is underscored by beige elements. A lotus-motif wallpaper serves as the hero piece, adding an intricate quality to balance the solid blocks of colour. A pair of dark-blue armchairs and a circular table line the window, while sable chandeliers ornament either side of the bed.

This space opens into a private lounge, which has its own seating area. A crystal chandelier illuminates one corner, highlighting the navy bookcase underneath.
Each brother’s suite consists of a bedroom, a lounge, bathrooms and a kitchen.
Burgundy and blue enliven the younger brother’s bedroom through complementary wall finishes. A buttoned black headboard dovetails with the burgundy wall behind, illuminated by a pendant on either side.

The bedroom connects to a private lounge. A black-mottled stone wall foregrounds a cobalt sofa and a pair of jade armchairs.
A black-and-white television unit is hosted on the wall opposite.
Stygian tones define the younger son’s powder room, courtesy an abstract backsplash that rises up to the ceiling.
“The circular mirror counterbalances the straightness of the surrounding aesthetic,” says Khanna.

A kitchen, characterised by a black-and-white striped floor, completes the younger son’s private suite. Moss-green subway tiles adorn the walls, providing a pop of colour against the monotone floor. A sleek marble-top island occupies the heart of the kitchen.

A teal wall forms an accent feature in the older son’s bedroom. A tufted, tan bed sits juxtaposed against the wall, duetting with the beige curtains on the window.
A quirky bookshelf stands guard to the left of the bed, backgrounded by a geometric mustard-and-black wallpaper.
The cobalt palette is carried forward by the designer into the older son’s lounge by way of a sheeny sectional that zones the seating area.
A television unit, flanked on the right by an open display cabinet, occupies the opposite wall.
Light and dark Italian marble finishes collide in the older son’s bathroom, cladding the floor and walls in equal measure. Symmetrical mirrors overarch the twin sinks, while a central storage divider masquerades as a spiffy shelving unit.
The older son’s kitchen is an oasis of monochrome and blue. A geometric black-and-white floor underpins the cooking chamber, providing visual variety against the blue subway backsplash. A seafoam-toned pendant hangs overhead, injecting the space with a calmness of colour.

A pumpkin-coloured wallpaper takes centre stage in the guest bedroom. Wooden rafters warm the ceiling, reflecting the homeowners’ proclivity for clean, straight lines.

Nicely designed house. From my point of view floor marble could be more attractive if they had used Wonder pink or another colour of marble. Although choice of selecting marble remains with owner. For Temple Onyx Gold may be good choice.
great design and architecture 👌👏
Beautifully and we'll thought out layout and design. The architects and designers have done an exceptional job of integrating all the elements together to bring about a seamless flow of the house. The collection of paintings and artefacts are mind-blowing. This house is a visual treat.
