It would be even more helpful if not all the homes were so ornate, as per the article most of us don't live in homes with 14 foot ceilings... Many/most of us live in average homes and are trying to make them look more polished. Can we please see some that look less staged and less like million dollar listings? Thanks.

@ HU-570373073 -- photos #3, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13, are all showing homes with 8 - 9 foot ceilings. Those looks are achievable if you want to go to town putting in beautiful crown moldings, and then finish off with attractive furnishings, fixtures and accessories. Beautifully done moldings can elevate a home to feel like a million dollar listing, even when it isn't.

To add to an earlier comment I made. We had a house in the UK, built in 1860, and cornices would have looked completely wrong, since small houses at that time didn't have them. We have lived in Switzerland, but mainly France, for 25 years: our house was built in 1949, immediately after the war. The window frames and floors are all walnut, but the beams are exposed. So again, cornicing would be very wrong. Ditto in Mexico, where I lived for 10 years, and Italy, another 3. So not so much a European thing, outside large houses and stately homes. As for installing them, aren't they horrible dust & grease traps? Genuine question.
