Gone are the days when conventional white and beige ceramic tiles were used for bathroom interiors. In recent years, factors like colour, texture, pattern and finish, which are available in materials like ceramic, porcelain and glass, play a key role in the choice of bathroom tiles. Colour not only adds character and vibrancy but also elevates the overall decor of this private space. However, it is important to strike the right balance if you are combining two or more tile colours. If you are planning to renovate your bathroom, here are some vibrant hues to consider.
Famosa - The Surface Studio
1. Give your bathroom a bold and flamboyant look with shades of red. Introduce it as an accent wall and make a strong style statement. Make sure you go for some light or neutral colours for the the rest of the walls and floor to draw attention to the red wall. It will also balance the powerful impact of red.

2. In this example, see how an accent wall of aqua tiles gives a fresh and airy feel to a narrow bathroom. The skylight over the shower stall lets in natural light, and the long side mirrors help maximise the illusion of space. Neutral shades of white or grey on the floor and walls, along with the dark wood vanity, tie the space together.

3. Add cheer to your bathroom with hues of yellow. It is a sunny shade that instantly lifts up the space and stands out amidst a neutral palette. In this bathroom, the yellow mosaic tiles continue from the floor onto the borders of the bathtub and up the middle wall. Besides cheering up the bathroom, this also makes the small space seem bigger.
4. If you are fond of nature and its bounty, introduce hues of green with the bathroom tiles. In this example, I like the way olive-green tiles create a subdued colour scheme. It embodies freshness when combined with black, white and grey. They all play wonderfully against each other.

5. How about adding a vibrant twist with shades of orange? Orange is a bright, attention-grabbing hue and it works particularly well when the bathroom gets ample natural light.

6. In this space, the wood mosaic tiles on the wall panel exude warmth; also seen is clever use of tile mosaic on the vanity counter, which forms an attractive design detail. Shades of brown can lead to dark interiors, so do install extra illumination.

Tip: To ensure long-term durability for wood mosaic tiles, treat them with sealants before installation, as bathroom areas are prone to moisture and dampness.

7. Bring an element of luxury and glamour into the bathrooms with gold tiles. There is a richness in gold, but make sure to use it sparingly so that it does not look gaudy. You could combine it with neutral beige tiles, as is done here. The selective use of gold mosaic gives the bathroom a sumptuous look without going OTT.

8. Here is a classic example of glass mosaic tiles in muted grey. It demarcates the shower area from the rest of the bathroom. Notice the steel finish on the vanity counter – it teams well with the grey tiles, chrome-finish hardware and sanitary fixtures to give a sleek modern look. So chic.

9. Those who love all things minimal will love the combination of black and white, as in this bathroom. Just see how a frieze of black highlighter tiles breaks the monotony of an all-white wall while the grey tile flooring weaves the space together.

10. Take a look at the multi-coloured mosaic tiling that makes for a striking floral detail. It is a perfect way to bring in colour and pattern into your bathroom. Install these tiles on small wall sections or the shower area. Combine them only with neutral or single-coloured tiles so that all the focus is on the mosaic pattern.
