I have a saddle in the garage. I have not owned a horse in 16 years. I am 70 and probably should not be on them anymore as a broken bone is more likely as one ages if there is a fall.

Saddles are one of the last handmade complex objects in modern society. They are expensive and unique. There it sits unused. I could sell it for $500 any day of the week. A new one costs many thousands. I had been saving it for my grandson who lives on acreage but he seems the sort who prefers machinery and they don't have a horse.

Of course I have other clutter but this is a large item that does need a new home.

Cora, I had to give two of my father's saddles away when he passed. One went to a horse rescue and one went to a children's riding therapy center. Felt really good.

Cora, donation is a great idea, if you can do it.... I couldn't part with the saddle I bought (used) in 1984. At the time, I viewed that $350 purchase as such an adult thing. I kept it even though it no longer fit any of my horses and wasn't 'in style'. It was in fabulous condition and reminded me of every horse I ever rode in it. I probably would have kept it forever - making my kids get rid of it - until I found an amazing artist who made beautiful purses for me out of it and some strap goods. It took me a while to actually send the saddle off, but I carry my main purse every day and haven't regretted the transformation one bit!! It was pricey, but worth it to me. https://www.calyse-co.com/
