The brief given to Reema Pathak, founder of her eponymous firm, by the homeowners was, in her words, for “a timeless, open and contemporary house for their small family”. Following the mandate, the designer used generous quantities of teak wood, grey stone tiles for the floors, rustic wood tiles and exposed bricks for accent walls, and silk in a variety of colours. Of the finished home, Pathak says, “Elegance, timeless design and chic colours make it a unique abode.”

The focal wall clad in rustic wood tiles is an unexpected feature, but one that sits well in the contemporary setting.
The living room opens into a fairly large balcony that is covered with natural-looking faux grass and furnished with comfortable seating upholstered in brightly coloured fabrics.
The high-rise apartment enjoys strong breezes and beautiful vistas stretching out into the distance. All the windows are designed to offer excellent cross-ventilation and views unobstructed by pieces of furniture.

The dining area is to the right of the living space. Pathak explains, “We started designing the house keeping in mind their requirements as a small family with one young kid and occasional guests, but at the same time the living, dining and family spaces are kept open without dividers in order to have the flexibility to host big dinner parties or any other celebrations.”
The dining room is dominated by a wall covered with a night-time cityscape. The dining table is custom made with a stone top and solid teak-wood base, lit by an artfully chipped concrete lamp suspended above it.
The passage beyond the dining room leads to the parents’ and kid’s bedrooms.

The master bedroom is elegant in its clean lines and subtle colours. The olive-green headrest makes a mark against the red exposed brick wall, which blends in nicely with the sleek teak-wood clad wardrobes.

Pathak elaborates, “We covered a column with a bookcase that opens on two sides. It connects to a bench to make a cosy reading corner.” Silk blinds in matching hues complete the bedroom.
The master bathroom maintains continuity with a similar colour palette, with its olive backsplash and teak-fronted drawers.
The son’s bedroom is located opposite the master bedroom. It is done in his favourite colours: red, white and blue.
A hand-painted wall and navy accents bring to life the boy’s interests. The study table is custom designed keeping in mind his growing needs for storage and studies.

The guest bedroom keeps up the design ethos that runs through the home. In Pathak’s words, “It’s a humble abode that is richly layered and textured with colourful artwork, custom furniture and minute details.”
