High-tech fittings and technology-enabled devices are now taking over our homes and lives. Think about it – can you imagine a day without your smart phone? Order food without an app? Manage without an oven or a microwave? Technology is a part of our day-to-day functioning … it helps create a space of luxury, convenience and ease.
With this aim, technology has moved deeper into our homes. At the recently concluded Hyderabad chapter of Economic Times ACETECH, organised by ABEC | ITE (one of the premier architecture and building materials fairs in India) that took place 25-27 January 2019 at the Hitex Exhibition Center, a wide array of such brands were visible.

Here’s a look at some of the emerging trends in high-tech homes.
1. Home security solutions
Whether you are a single person living on your own, a family in an independent villa or a joint family of 10 in a high-rise, security is a concern for everyone. Of course, one may argue that a security guard stationed at the gate should be good enough; however, a mishap can happen, regardless of humans posted at gates.
This is where high-tech home security systems come into play. Companies like Discreet provides a range of services using a variety of connected intelligent high-tech devices. From apartment video door phones that have an integrated motion sensor, to digital door locks that work on biometrics or keycard or passcode, to one-touch emergency stations that can alert authorities during emergencies, to sensors that detect gas leaks, and more … they and many more such, provide overall security solutions.

2. High-tech bathing systems

3. Retractable architectural features
Imagine having a home that isn’t completely made of brick and mortar, and can be opened up as per will. Having flexible architectural elements can create versatile, open, dynamic spaces.
Megavent is one of the many such brand that caters to this idea. Amongst their many offerings is retractable roofing: skylights made in aluminium or polycarbonate sheets that can be opened and closed using a remote. These can be installed above swimming pools or at home. With a retractable cover, one have the pool open to sky when in use, and close it up the rest of the time, thus keeping the swimming pool clean for longer (leaves or insects will not drop into the water). Similarly, retractable roofing can help keep a home air conditioned yet allow views of the sky.

4. Bluetooth-enabled home
Today, every homeowner looks for increased functionality in all things – furniture, storage and more. After all, as spaces are getting smaller in large towns, most items at home should effectively offer more uses than one, don’t you think?
Take Fanzart - Designer Fans, for instance. The brand provides exotic designer fans that look stylish, simple and artistic, while still being efficiently robust. 5. Energy-efficient lighting
Today, there’s a lot of talk about LEDs (light-emitting diodes) being a more energy-efficient way of lighting. These lights are taking over conventional incandescent bulbs and even the compact fluorescent lamps or CFLs. After all, why not, when with an LED bulb or tube 80 per cent of the electrical energy is converted to light, while the average incandescent bulb is known to be only 20 per cent energy-efficient.
It’s therefore cheering to see that many brands are now appearing in the LED lighting sector. Lightbook offers lighting product concepts and designs for the indoors, exteriors, facades and landscapes, for both residential and commercial clients. Their LED track lighting, recessed downlights, pendants, and panel lighting all provide green, energy-efficient ways to illuminate the home.
