Our kitchens often reflect stages of life, personalities and priorities. If yours looks out of step with who you are and where you’re at, it could be time to make some minor adjustments. For those feeling more worldly-wise and confident in who they are – or who would like to set an intention for this to come about in 2017 – a glint or two of glamour in the kitchen can be fitting. Read on for some simple tips on how to give your kitchen a luxurious lift, without the need for major renovations.
Make magic with mirrors
Child-free homes (or empty nests) can add glamour galore with the help of mirrors, whether on the face of your island, the splashback or just a well-positioned full-length mirror leaning up against one wall. Hollywood Regency style is only a few steps away.

Rethink your rangehood
A tacky rangehood can cheapen a kitchen, but the right one can become a standout feature that takes your kitchen upmarket.

… or light fittings with a more modern edge to add a sense of drama.
Be confident with colour
The more self-assured you become, the less you need to rely on trends to guide your choices in life, and the same can be true in the kitchen. If you like a particular hue, be bold and work it into your kitchen. These handmade glazed splashback tiles in malachite green pair beautifully with timber, and give the kitchen a sophisticated character all its own.

Just designing our kitchen for our new townhouse - still at least two years away from moving in - but we have decided to reverse the 'Butlers Pantry' and 'Kitchen' nomenclature and have the utilitarian part of the operation behind the wall and the 'Servery' part on show.
That's a good idea, archimondo. I don't like the term "Butler's Pantry", unless you have a butler. How about the old fashioned "scullery", but then I suppose you'd need a scullery maid! They both sound a bit pretentious, as does "mud room".
Add some wine storage to new or existing cabinets! These Tansel stainless steel wire baskets use Tasmania Oak inserts to stop bottles rolling around as you pull them in/out. Many sizes to choose from & DIY suitable. A great addition to the "grown ups" kitchen. More info...http://tansel.com.au/product/wine-storage/
