In most homes, sitting rooms double as family lounges. Often the space meant to entertain guests is also used to unwind in the evening with the family – or, put another way, the family living room is also the drawing room for many. For the fortunate ones who have the luxury of space and who can afford to have a separate lounge, here are eight lounges that brings your family together in comfort and in high style.
Kumar Moorthy & Associates
1.
An open landing is converted into a beautiful lounge by Kumar Moorthy & Associates. A wall unit, with a TV, open shelves and cabinets, stands opposite the vibrant, relaxed seating. This open space gets an abundance of natural light from the central open atrium all day. At night,
recessed lights and a cluster of pendants light up the room. Three sides of the lounge are walls of glass; the mood is light and the focus is on easy comfort.
S A K Designs
2.
This family room by SAK Designs shows a fuss-free design. Multicoloured beanbag-like single sofas have been placed on the wooden floor.
The wraparound tall glass windows fill the room with natural light. Blinds, instead of curtains, maintain the clean look. The room has a flexible setup as the beanbags can be moved around as needed.
Essentia Environments
3.
A compact comfort zone – that is what this lounge by Essentia Environments represents. The clean layout and a defined décor come together to create a special space to unwind and relax. Accessories are kept to a minimum; this uncluttered look is also maintained by using only essential furniture pieces. The colour scheme is quiet; the cool grey of the L-shaped sofa balances out the warmth of the wooden floor, wall and ceiling.
Fulcrum Studio
4.
A low chaise longue in ivory, a
sectional sofa and super-sized love seats in deep rusty orange and a couple of soft grey armchairs take up a large share of the space in this huge family lounge by Fulcrum Studio. Making a large room feel cosy and intimate can be challenging but here the use of warm and inviting shades does the trick. The warm colours of the sofa, the carpets and the curtains balance out the black-and-white contrast created by the floor and the ceiling. The sheer curtains control the flow of natural light while the pendant lights add warm ambient light. The space behind the columns is illuminated to prevent any dark areas.

5.
A set of snug futons, warm textured surfaces and an artistic accent wall – this family lounge brings together style and comfort. The space is a comfortable corner designed for relaxation. The cheerful colours of the abstract-print rug and patterned cushions bring a sense of play and lightness to the room.
Dipen Gada and Associates
6.
This is an expansive space by Dipen Gada and Associates, unhampered by much furniture. A few sofa sectionals face the TV wall, leaving the rest of the floor unoccupied. Huge sliding glass doors to the balcony flood the room with natural light. The bubblegum pink and walnut brown of the furniture are a pop of colour in a room dominated by cream and white.
Architecture BRIO
7.
This cosy den has been designed by Architect BRIO. The space has an intimate feel that is enhanced by the low ceiling, warm lighting and comfortable sofas. Books, art and artefacts, strategically placed in the recessed shelves and on the walls, add to the classic and sophisticated look.

Moriq
8.
This space is as soothing to the eyes as it is relaxing to the body. Moriq Interiors uses muted, rich furnishings and comfortable seating and furniture to create the ultimate lounge. It’s not visible here, but this room also has a state-of-the-art theatre system.
