7 Stylish Ways to Stash the Shower Squeegee
Glass shower enclosures make this accessory a must, and there are many smart placement options
There’s a new design challenge that goes along with today’s glass shower enclosure trend. Many people like to wipe down the glass walls with a squeegee right after a shower to keep the glass free of spots and streaks. But where do you keep the squeegee so it’s handy but not in the way? With thoughtful placement, a squeegee can serve as an attractive accent or be cleverly concealed from view. Here are seven ways designers are stylishly incorporating them into showers.
2. Lined Up With Other Elements
Here the squeegee mount is lined up along the grout lines. It also lines up vertically with the soap and shampoo holder above it. The handle’s finish blends right in with the color of the tile, and although the placement is well below eye level, the squeegee is still within easy reach.

3. Cleverly Camouflaged

5. Lined Up Under the Niche
Another way to relate the squeegee to the niche is to put it off to one side underneath. Note here how the pros at Bathroom Eleven lined one edge of the squeegee up with the edge of the niche.

6. In the Niche
If you’d rather tuck a squeegee out of view from the rest of the bathroom, make space for it in a niche. Factor in its placement early on in the design process to accommodate it. David Supple of New England Design & Construction extended this niche horizontally to leave room for the squeegee. Because the niche is on a side wall of the bathroom, it’s visible only from within the shower.

7. Hidden From View
Allow other elements such as a vanity, sink, pony wall or toilet to block the view of the squeegee from the rest of the bathroom. Here, the pedestal sink does the job.

Your turn: We’ve had a lot of discussions on Houzz about the need to squeegee. For those of you who’ve decided that a clear glass enclosure is worth the time it takes to make a few post-shower swipes, how do you feel about the placement of the squeegee? Do you try to hide it or show it off? Please share in the Comments.

One way to approach the squeegee is to show it off. The increased demand for squeegees has resulted in chic and sleek designs in a wide range of finishes. Just be sure to consider placement when mounting a squeegee within view of the rest of the room.
In this clean and contemporary shower by Heliotrope Architects, the squeegee is the same distance from the shower niche as the shower head fixtures on the other side. The result is a pleasingly balanced look.
