A beautifully decorated powder room can serve as an organic extension to your living space, offering guests an experiential chamber of style and calm. Powder rooms are quickly emerging as staple elements in modern houses, with more and more urban homeowners shelling out big bucks on swanky interiors, premium fittings and sterling basins. In this article, we take a look 12 gorgeous powder rooms from Indian homes that stand out.
Khosla Associates
1. Canvas of silvery grey
This bathroom, designed by Khosla Associates, offers a smoky backdrop that infuses a moody vibe to the space. The deep-charcoal palette is an androgynous spin on modern design, while the walnut mirror frame strikes a harmonious balance. An egg-white porcelain sink is mounted on a four-legged stone base and the wall on the left wears a splash of colour, courtesy a zany abstract painting.

2. Beachside inspiration
You can’t go wrong with opposites on the colour wheel, a point well illustrated by this space designed by Studio Nishita Kamdar. This two-toned powder room is a little sliver of the seaside, with the wall featuring a sand-inspired lower half and a sea-blue upper half. The Mediterranean-meets-Mughal flower motif on the tiles is a medley of eastern and western sensibilities. The custom terracotta sink blends in well with the sandstone-coloured tiles.

3. Colour me bright
This eclectic space, also designed by Khosla Associates, is an indoor version of sunshine and the skies. The room uses cheerful colours and a cleverly placed blue-rimmed mirror helps amplify the space. The bright-yellow sink base is fashioned as a low Parisian-inspired platform, complete with delicate arches and tapered legs. The ivory vessel sink and deck-mounted mixer tap make for excellent design inspiration.
Monica Khanna Designs
4. Earthy retreat
This powder room by Monica Khanna Designs looks like a peaceful sanctuary, put together from the colours of the earth. The farmhouse design calls to nature, with a wall-sized glass window overlooking a lush enclosed garden.
Quirk Studio
5. Quirky monochrome
Black and white is a classic combination that can really turn a place around. This space, designed by Quirk Studio, creates a sense of quirkiness and whimsy with the zingy zigzag pattern on the floor – the star of the show. The muted colours on the walls and fixtures act as a gentle backdrop to the flooring. A similar herringbone pattern is introduced by the wooden door.

6. Warmth of wood
This wood-panelled powder room by Patel-Vadodaria Design Research Studio isn’t elaborate, but it certainly warms the heart. The floor-to-ceiling wood panelling features a pair of indigo central squares that break up the expanse of wood-brown and connect to the cool blue-grey of the floor and countertop.
Mansi Desai
7. Middle-Eastern theme
Designed by Mansi Desai, this powder room takes inspiration from Middle-Eastern design. The subtle yet intricate detailing on the brown tiles is a hallmark of Middle-Eastern art. The Turkish globe lamps add a dash of colour and variety to the room.

8. Factory-inspired elements
Bring industrial elements like corrugated iron, exhaust pipes and repurposed metals in the spotlight. This bathroom features a metal mirror frame, antique sewing machines and dark walls. The crisscross lamps are reminiscent of fixtures typical of assembly lines.

9. Low-light aesthetics
Ambient lighting can create a moody cocoon in any room of the house. This powder room by The Orange Lane glows in a warm band of light, thanks to the overhead lamps. The circular copper mirror pairs well with the marbled brown tiles.
ACDS
10. Backdrop of royal blue
Royal blue and gold are a surefire way to spell luxury, and this penthouse powder room by ACDS combines the colours brilliantly. The Egyptian-blue mirror frame rests on a backdrop of gold polka-dots on cobalt. The grand chandelier and gold panelling complete the uber luxe appeal of the room.
P S Design
11. British colonial design
This rustic red powder room by P S Design seems right out of a colonial British villa. The exquisite metal mirror, fringed by flowers, looks almost like a mosaic. The textured gold wall behind it works as a stylistic frame, highlighting its precious centrepiece. The old-world pedestal sink salutes the architectural heritage created by the British in India.

12. Geometric tiles
There’s something about geometric patterns that is so comforting. This saffron-and-periwinkle bathroom scores a tie between hip and old-fangled, with geometric tiles enveloping the space on two sides. The dark timbers on the sink stand are classic, adding a polished twist to the space.
