A lot of interior design is about finding beautiful items to fill a space. But a huge part is knowing when to stop. Negative space is often the element that goes forgotten in a home – and it’s easy to forget, since you can’t even see it. If you feel an obsessive need to overfill your home, here’s my advice for the areas where the best thing to add might just be nothing at all.
1. Awkward angles
Got an unusual bulkhead making your attic or basement space hard to fill? Then don’t fill it. Keep all the wall surfaces one colour to de-emphasise the odd shapes, and let the eye fall on the objects in the room instead. Add some artistic interest to the floor instead with a fun rug so the room still feels decorated.

Great article...a lot to think about.
This is a good article! As I grow older I like quality versus quantity so my home is free of clutter. I am very selective of what occupies space on my walls and my floor space. Rather than having tons of cheap prints I rather collect original paintings that can be passed on for generations - the same with furniture, which has nothing to do with running out of money or not knowing how to decorate like another comment states. Negative spaces makes my home a place to relax and it allows me to decorate by seasons by using different rugs and custom made pillows. Less is more specially with the overwhelming amount of info we receive nowadays!
