Yellow induces happiness, energy and excitement in us. It’s the colour of sunshine, daffodils, lemons and canaries. Be it and mellow or a bold, attention-seeking shade of yellow, it’s a note that strikes a chord with most people and lends itself to experimentation. Here are some examples of how different spaces have romanced this heartwarming hue and welcomed warmth and energy into their homes.
1. The eye is naturally drawn to the boldest and most powerful hue in a room and in this case, it is the bright yellow flooring. The shade takes the lead in this room and makes it into a vivid oasis, lifting the mood of the interiors otherwise finished in bare concrete.
2. A sparkling yellow accent piece can inject life and energy into any space, just like in this dining room. The sunny standalone console adds a pop of colour in the space with black-and-white wallpaper, deep-blue dining chairs and neutral flooring and walls.
3. It’s a well-known fact – a bright colour works beautifully with a neutral scheme around it. The two yellow upholstered chairs inside this living looking room are a case in point. The bright hue gets a lift against the off-white sofas and the dark concrete walls. The presence of a fun, funky tint in this earthy-looking interior creates a great visual contrast.

4. This shade brightens up even the simplest of spaces in the quickest way possible. See how the wall and the lights drenched in the sunshine hue affect the mood of this outdoor section with wooden seats and dark flooring. The mirrorwork on the wall and the motifs surrounding it give a decorative quality to the space. Also, notice how yellow produces the most fascinating contrast with the green grass, proving that it’s a nice outdoor colour to have.
5. The repetition of yellow in different spots in the bedroom helps tie in the overall colour scheme. The abstract painting, bedcover and accessories on the shelf in the far right corner light up different areas of the bedroom, making it look fun and lively. The grey walls provide the perfect base for the vibrant hue to stand out, and the floor-to-ceiling mirror creates a layered effect.

6. This corner with lots of wall accents and a walnut-brown bar cabinet gets a punch of colour with the lemony chair. The different-sized frames, curios, a little planter, table-top elements and the quaint chair, together create a fun, zesty vignette.
7. The large yellow sofa and the aqua-blue lighting create a nice colour contrast in this grey-toned room. Hints of red, green and pink are introduced by the artwork and cushions. A smart, relaxing nook is created.
8. This home’s inviting entrance begs the question – why should doors be ignored in interior design? A door painted yellow inside and out can ensure that you step in and out with a smile on your face.

9. Yellow works well with multiple colours – sometimes it creates an intriguing contrast, sometimes a complementing scheme. This teal-toned kitchen is one such example. While the yellow lights and the curtains contrast with the dark walls, the white cabinets, flooring and chairs balance out the colour clashes, creating a bright, animated haven to wine and dine in.
10. Sometimes small changes can make a big difference. Take, for instance, this room furnished with neutral colours – a tiny bit of chrome yellow is introduced on the handrail and on a cushion in the foreground, giving the soft-toned room an attractive, artsy touch.
