Of all the pics above I love the Lucy Call kitchen, it would look just right in my old cottage...and I like that the sink is not set in the main central island...which is a design feature that I really don't 'get' ...I'd really love to have this kitchen and its got my renovating juices flowing...although I'd have to hire a chap these days! Don't have a BEFORE pic of my little country kitchen but here's the AFTER...a scanned photo since I did not have a digital camera or a phone then. Its functional and enough for me although I would love to really do it up but not spoil the character of this 1900s house. To the left of the pic you can see just a corner of a built-in old fashioned hutch which I made myself from a chest of drawers, and a wall hutch from the same era as the house got from the recycle den then joined them together. Its quite successful in having visitors think its a genuine old piece and it provides plenty of storage.....have big original pantry built ins in the hallway. The little blue bench/table was also built to measure as there's really no room for a kitchen table and chairs. The door to the far right is where the kitchen area finishes ..(.it leads to the laundry/mud room and toilet...so glad to have the loo out there in a room of its own,) Since I made the kitchen 'workable' I've had a northern veranda put on (left of the photo) and opened the kitchen to an 'al fresco' dining...though sunny and warm for most of the time not really practical during the frosty winter mornings here. Its a functional little hub at least, it sits three, four at a squeeze around the blue bench...the chairs have to live somewhere else and they 'visit' when friends come for a cuppa, scones, jam and cream. Its not too bad a little kitchen for a gal on her own who bought a neglected old house and knew nothing of renovating 31 years ago, and I'm rather fond of it... although definitely time for a HOUZZ-inspired re-vamp! Thanks Laura Gaskill for this article! Very, very inspiring!

This article is inspiring. I especially like the McCormick's kitchen. So refreshing to see a kitchen with no stainless steel. Mixing a black cooktop with white appliances and sink just reinforced my decision to do the same. Thank you!
