Sliding doors are functional substitutes for traditional doors in homes where space is at a premium. They are also an ideal choice to create a seamless connection between spaces. Here, I’ve shortlisted 10 unique-looking sliding doors that are not only functional but also heavily influence the decor and design of spaces.

1. This herringbone-patterned sliding door made of veneer and bison board connects the TV room to the dining room, while adding a rich dose of design to the two spaces.

2. In this dining area, the wood-framed, multi-hued sliding door looks almost like a wallpaper, enhancing the vibrant ambience. When pulled back, it reveals the TV room hidden behind it.

3. These frosted-glass sliding doors with black frames bring a touch of sophistication to the rusticity of the wooden accents. Also, choosing a translucent material for the sliding door allows light through and ensures that when pulled back, the bedroom and lounge area look like one large uninterrupted space. It’s as if a door is barely there.

4. This design has my vote – the patchwork-style sliding door suffuses the room with colour, playfulness and art.

5. The Buddha design and the subtle motifs on the sliding door add to the calm, serene vibe of the home. When the sliding door is shut, the entire wall looks like a large artwork.

6. The brightly painted sliding door brings a bright pop of colour to the living room – when pulled back, the powder room mirror and the frame of the miniature painting share hues with the door, giving a sense of connection to the design.

7. A modern, vibrantly blue room gets a rustic outdoorsy vibe through the wooden sliding door. The contrast is quite eye-catching.

8. These tall chocolate-coloured doors not only add depth to the all-white scheme around them but also an air of enticing drama with their high glossthe high-gloss paint finish.

9. What better way to encourage spontaneous creativity. This chalkboard sliding door can encourage the family’s inner artists to reveal themselves. Plus, it’s a great place to jot notes on the fly and is easy to clean. A new artwork every day on the door can keep the vibe of the living room fresh and fun.

10. The industrial look of this sliding door is quite intriguing – its wood-and-metal design goes well with the bare brick walls of the bathroom.
