This passage is a nice example of a simple entryway made impactful by the metalwork screen that lets in a bit of dappled sunlight and a whole lot of the outdoors. The wooden console with a built-in seat, framed by a smaller version of the metalwork, rounds off the cosy foyer.

Here’s a doorway that makes quite an entrance. Part oak wood and part gun-metal MS (mild steel), it looks like it belongs in a mini fortress, albeit a modern one.

Mini boulders and colourful flora are nicely juxtaposed with a background of dark walls and a chevron veneer door that looks impenetrable and impressive in equal measures, but still warm and welcoming.

The main door, set in a grey background, sets it apart from the other entrance, as does the carved panel inserted in it. A seat and a couple of potted plants are a welcoming sight, while the imitation street lamp adds an outdoorsy touch.

Simple is striking. Highly polished floors, clean lines and a monochrome palette create a space that’s ingenious in its simplicity.

A striking credenza in cane topped, off with an oversized round mirror oozes mid-century elegance. The downturned shiny metallic lamp set in a solid block adds the finishing touch to the pretty picture.

Here’s a blue-and-white theme that’s not nautical. A smart teal door stands tall amidst a sea of white walls. The glass window (referred to as a borrowed light window), built in above the door allows light into the hallway. At right are planters that prove one can never go wrong with greens any way or anywhere.

9. Concrete and wood – both are earthy looking and complement each other, even though one is cool (literally!) while the other exudes warmth. Case in point, this immense entryway bathed in concrete and enlivened by a huge wooden swivel door that brings pattern and a sense of warmth to the vast space.

A bright-yellow geometric screen working as a divider in the hallway gives visitors a moment’s pause before entering. The floating wooden console works as a handy hold-it-all, while the plant adds a vibrant green to the pretty tableau.
