According to vastu, every part of our life is deeply linked to the design, decor and maintenance of the space around us. This is why different areas of the home, when centred around vastu, can help channel positivity and good energy into the inhabitants’ lives. Here are some very important tips that you should consider incorporating into your home.
Colour
Colour has a profound effect on our mood. In clothing, interiors or landscape, colour can influence our emotions, making us from sad to happy, fearful to confident. Some colours have a pertinent effect on individuals. Response to colour may be influenced by a number of factors, such as the body’s affinity towards a specific shade, or a sad or happy memory associated with a hue.

Study room: According to vastu, the walls of the study room should be light orange in colour, as it is a hue that supports the development of the mind and progress of work.

Bathroom: Avoid painting the bathroom in dark colours like black, brown or red. Light blue and light green are the most advisable hues.
Kitchen: This space can be painted in subtle colours like white and green, as the latter represents food and nourishment. However, avoid red, as it hampers the energy flow in the room.
Master bedroom and living room: For the bedroom and the living room, the walls can be white, pale yellow or golden, as yellow represents Jupiter, the planet of abundance and prosperity. Blue and black should be avoided. For the puja room, only yellow is advised.
Mirrors
The best shape for the mirrors is square or rectangular. Avoid oval and round shaped mirrors as they scatter the energy of a home. Mirrors should be installed only on the east and north walls of the house. So, due care should be taken while designing the dressing room and bathroom. Make sure there are no mirrors opposite the bed – you release stress during your sleep and a mirror tends to hold the stress and reflect it back, bringing illnesses to the person.

Lighting
Lighting, when aligned according to vastu, can make a design come alive – it can create a warm, inviting and energetic interior, or result in a cold and monotonous space.

In the bedroom, the lighting should be a soothing illumination. If you want to highlight some paintings or photographs, you can go for task lighting in this area. According to vastu, lighting fixtures like bulbs and tube lights should be installed on the east or north wall of the room to invite the flow of energy.
Furniture and accessories
Chairs, sofas and other heavy furniture should be placed in the west or south. The south-western area should be reserved for the most heavy articles.
