large windows
GCB--These look like custom-made windows. Can be nice. I wonder, however, if this look will age well with 20-30 years, or look specific to a fad? GMB--These could be great, with their clean, fine moldings and frames. But they do have the industrial look that you don't like, involving black metal. That presumably adds a strong slant to the overall house design.
GCB--This looks like a possible look of windowed DOORS from the exterior. Not sure I love, but want to discuss with P'Liz for what they would look like. As said before, want to understand look of pre-fab windows/door windows, and custom -- and what is imagined for our house. GMB--Sliding doors, could be nice.
GCB--Two thoughts on this: 1. window doors here -- let's discuss P'Liz idea & how it compares to this look in implementation? 2. For upstairs bedroom or wherever, if going to have space for exercise indoors, would be good to have inviting area and either nice lighting, possible privacy, or versatile space... GMB--Nice sliding doors here.
GCB--These windows could look all right for the living room windows... Don't know... GMB--I love the artisan-industrial look, and these windows seem to be beautifully made. But they would be expensive. I think we had excluded the industrial touch of iron for our windows, as well as the small squares. I love iron, including rusty iron, and would love to use it on the exterior if it were possible and advisable ... but it could clash with the rest of the house.
GCB--Nice idea for master bedroom window approach? (Or possibly laundry room window approach too...) The use of space around the window, if we are putting in new windows. Not sure what this would do to the light entering the window, or how it would look from the outside. GMB--This seems like a very nice window implementation. The multiple lights (six per sash) are great but would have to be planned with all the other window designs in mind. The double sash seems out of keeping with the rest of the modern look of the addition. The bookshelves are clean and nice, though the bottom cabinets 'revert to 30s modern.'
GCB--windows interesting in horizontal being bigger than vertical measure of panes. Moldings on room and windows are nice. (Don't like anything else about this place. Egads!) GMB--Classic greek revival window structure. Fantastic, but not for a modern addition I'd say. Basic question of multiple vs. single lights in each window: simple is more in keeping with the modern concept.
GCB--Another sliding door windows idea. (Don't like everything else in this -- the coldness, the greyness, the spare lines) GMB--Don't like the aluminum color, but the idea of clean, beautiful sliding doors is great. The rest of the room is tolerable but frankly just not that beautiful or harmonious.
GCB--This looks like sliding doors that are pretty possibly. Could be a good solution to the large windows downstairs and still remain pre-fab, rather than custom? GMB--Amazing doors, but again for a warmer climate? And surely very expensive ... and wouldn't be amenable to our LR plans? I love the ceiling, too.
GCB--These are really nice windows & the way they are laid out in different sizes to create a sense of framing. Interesting idea. Are these custom or typical measurements/pre-fab? GMB--These are very nice windows, the question is do we want or need the fancier ones (on the right) for our house? I tend to the idea that less (visible design-element clutter) is more. Do I want to look at these windows every day for 30 years? Probably not. the bigger windows on the left are less intrusive.
GCB--Don't love the dark and heavy/thick black on these windows, but it may look worse because they are open? The thinner moldings in the middle window are nicer. Are these custom made or pre-fab? GMB--I don't like the 'pretend-industrial' look here. Don't like the heavy black window moldings and the clash with the aluminum-colored closet moldings is regrettable.
GCB--are these non-custom sized windows? I'm interested in looking at windows that are pre-fab (would be seriously less expensive, if I understood P'Liz right), and so wonder what options are on looks from pre-fab large windows, so we can see possibilities. GMB--Very impressive finesse of moldings here. On first glance I like them.
GCB--could be great to have windows like this. Not sure I like the thick wood accent (or maybe it's just the color I don't like) around them. GMB--Impressive installation, but black metal, not a good choice for us? Wood-clad interior could be beautiful, but with white LR walls would we want brown window moldings? I hope to maximize the effects of simplicity and light. The wooden elements of the interior are beautiful in their way (floor, walls, ceiling).
GMB--Amazing windows. GCB--I don't love the dividers -- look like a corporate design to me, not homey?
