Kitchen/mud room
[JB] I’m saving this solely for the door hardware. I kind of really like it? I’m surprised myself. Also, this is not exactly the image that set us on the path for the kitchen design we settled on, but it is an expression of a similar idea, which gives me validation. (Although if we were really out of our lane, I would expect Jenny to take the wheel and keep us out of a ditch.) (JK) There's a lot to like here, Jerry. Do you like the form of the door hardware or the finish? Or both? I recall this finish being ruled out long ago.
[JB] I am sharing this because it gets as close as any photo I have found that express the idea of “warm.” This photo hits a lot of characteristics that I like. I like the many options for lighting. We have can lights and pendants. That lets me throw a lot of light when we need to get work done, and the pendants throw off a lot of warm light, probably on a dimmer. I like the stain, the wood floor, even the countertops. All that said, I don’t necessarily think that this design is where we’re going, but at least you can see what was in my head when I first described the kitchen. (JK) Jerry, thanks for sharing. That's helpful on a lot of levels but the three that jump out at me is how to handle cabinets, counters and backsplash. Our job is to help you and Natalie fulfill your vision and now is the right time to dig more deeply into the interior design theme so that as Jenny is working with the 20/20 software and on all things interior deisgn we can dial things in.
B/w kitchen that I like. Pros: wood floor, although it is more blond than I think ours will be; the contrasting cabinet colors, the door hardware. Cons: the range hood. (JK) It's a great look. The floor is more blond but not only is that not a driver, but your floor color will feel even better than this one. I too am not a fan of this range hood.
[JB] I’m tagging this one because I am not sure how I feel about it. I am specifically focusing on the piece that spans the cabinets over the window. It continues the crown molding, so that’s cool, maybe? But kind of like the crown molding itself. (JK) Go tit. There are some really nice elements in this photo but I'm not sure the valance over the window is the look we're after in your kitchen.
[JB] There is a lot I like here. First, we see an example of wood floors in the kitchen, which I think we all agree is where we’re headed. Plain cabinets. (I quite like the color, too.) The hardware reminds me of that Prairie/Deco/Mackintosh style, which feels like where we might want to go for inspiration. It is somewhat of the period, yet the lines are cleaner and hint at Modernism. I’m +/- on the sink + faucet combo. I also like the solid-surface or stone counter. And the millwork at the top echoes the rest of the house, but simpler and cleaner.
I quite like this tile detail. I get that the mud room should have a utility function, but it should also look decent. It is the de facto front door, after all. How can we make it classy it still durable and easy to keep clean? (JB)
Another entry-area storage idea that feels right to me.
This is a nice idea — bench, hooks, space for shoes. (JB)
I don’t particularly like much of this. I _do_ like the expression of the concept of having a place right inside the door where someone can empty their pockets. (JB)
Skylights a possibility? Our house is fairly dark. Wondering how we could capture more natural light.
Saving because the concept of a fireplace in a sunroom in interesting to me. I am thinking about what happens if we blow up the three-season room. We love our fireplace. Would it be too far away from the action in any new layout? Would a second wood-burner be the solution? I'm reviewing some of the photos Jerry put in. This is a great example of a white space that still is super inviting, not at all sterile, and "warm" despite the whiteness.
Smaller but very open. Nice use of space.
I like the lower island that could double as kitchen table.
I like how open this is. Lots of people could hang out comfortably with us while we're cooking. Instead of dining area it would be fun to have living space with more comfortable seating like a couch.
This is just totally my jam in terms of style. (JB)
I like the styling. I like the shelves. I want a compact space, not a sprawling back-bar.
Glassware storage good. Nice compact arrangement. I’m looking for a space separate from the kitchen proper, and this picture express the idea.
Appreciate the style, do not want a tap or a kegerator. Subway tile!
Espresso maker, check. Bev cooler, check. Small sink, check. Plus/minus on wine fridge. Love the function; do not like aesthetic.
Pot rack would be fun.
Place to hang stuff.
Shoe organizer!
Bench. Storage.
I’m a sucker for built-in bookcases; would love to have something like this in shared kitchen-living space.
I like how open this is, with the kitchen looking into the living and dining areas.
Again, bar/work space together so people can hang out and socialize and work too.
Again, like the storage nooks for each person
Bench, storage nooks for each person Would want more room for shoes
[jb] a different backsplash design option. Not sure I like this either, but am saving to share with Nat
