Bathroom
A new color palette made all the difference, making the space feel light, airy and downright delightful. The client didn’t want an all-white bathroom that felt stark, so designer Laura Hay chose whites that had a more warm, limestone look. Other than the color, the family also updated the windows, vanity, sink, tub-shower combo and mirror.
Think “wall mounted” to make great use of space. The tank of a wall-mounted toilet is inside the wall behind it, so it uses the depth of the wall to reduce how far it protrudes into the room. For the carrier system inside the wall, you can get one that either fits into a wall with 2-by-6-inch studs or one that recesses into a wall with standard 2-by-4 studs.
Claim as much space as possible. Creating niches is a great way to utilize space you might not even know you have. Inside your walls are studs, and they are usually 16 inches apart, while the depth of the stud plus the drywall on the front of it gives you a little over 4 inches in depth. If this is an interior wall that does not have insulation or plumbing running through it, that is space you can use. This long niche next to the vanity pictured here has glass shelves and lighting at the top. It provides a handy place for a towel or toiletries, and it looks beautiful at the same time. Tip: When using open storage like this, transfer toiletries out of their ho-hum, mishmash plastic bottles and into decorative containers. It will instantly make the room feel less cluttered and more stylish.
Shelves tucked behind a full-length mirror expand the traditional medicine cabinet approach — especially in a bath with windows over the sink, like this one.
No wall space is too skinny for shelving. It's generally pretty easy to retrofit a bath with recessed units, especially if you can place them between wall studs. לבדוק עם שון אם ניתן לעשות נישה כזו בביתהשימוש
A shallow niche puts a minimal spin on between-the-mirrors storage. This also is a great way to break up a frameless wall-to-wall mirror. לעשות מדף מעל האסלה וארון שמכיל את המראה בתוך המסגרת שלו
This slim structure packs in a lot of function, from the cabinet and towel cubby on one side to the open shelving on the other. Small slices of space like this, often lurking next to a sink, tub or mirror, cry out to be put to use
Cabinets under the sink are often totally wasted space because they are just an empty box; once things go in, you can’t see anything at the back. Installing drawers under the sink maximizes every cubic inch of space. These drawers are U-shaped to slide around the pipes under the sink.

This tiny eclectic bathroom can afford to mix and match styles and eras, because the color brings it all together.

Lacava Minimal Wall Mount Rain Showerhead - $420 Check the shower arm. Make sure your showerhead has a quality arm. Chrome-plated brass is a great option. It looks great and has some weight to it. Many budget fixtures come with chrome-plated plastic; these can fail in time and are far inferior to chrome-plated brass shower arms. Leaks in the wall can cause thousands of dollars in damages if they go undetected. If you and your partner are different heights and each adjusts the showerhead daily, this is all the more reason to have a quality shower arm or sliding bar with a handheld sprayer.

the tub color. Tub enclosure. Just because you have a tub doesn’t mean you are stuck with a shower curtain. Tempered hinged glass can give you the best of both worlds: the ability to reach the fixtures and the ability to keep water in the shower. Also, tempered ⅜-inch frameless glass is very durable, so even if you bump the panel against your toilet or vanity, it won’t damage the glass. Tempered glass can be sandblasted to create a frosted look, providing some privacy as well as looking good. Have a little fun with a combination of frosted and clear glass
Consider a Nordic look. Here, a classic-style shower fixture, albeit one with a smaller shower head than in the previous bathrooms, works well in an almost sauna-like, Scandinavian-style space, with a traditional sink and a toilet with a wooden seat.
