Master Bathroom Update
Extensive story - must read!
Curb vs. Curbless? Residential Resurrections I have installed both. I'm an independent contractor, so I have no extraordinary bias for either (except the linear drain and no curb will make me more profit. It needs significant attention to planning and execution) AFA slope, recommended slope for both types is the same 1/4 inch per foot. Of more significance is the need to use slip resistant tile and sanded grout. A center drain has an advantage in that smaller tiles (and therefore, a higher percentage of area is grout) must be used due to the bowl nature of the drain plane. Linear drains allow the use of a single drain plane, which therefore will allow the use of large format tiles. With less grout (which acts as little traction bars), it is important that the tile has a 0.6 COF (Coefficient Of Friction rating of .6 or more). Honed natural stone (like marble/granite) are problematic when wet. Spray on coatings are now available to improve traction. Search for "tile slip coatings". One vendor cited 3 years of duration. YMMV

Small inset at 12" from floor is for leg shaving! No bench needed that would take up space here.

14. Grout as a design feature. The grout between this bathroom wall’s subway tiles ties it to the gray and white palette of the marble floor.
12. Gray tones. It seems gray is here to stay, and it’s not all about “greige” anymore. Tones picked up from natural stone, like Carrara marble or slate, are a good place to start. The variation in these 3-inch by 6-inch subway tiles adds depth and visual interest to this sophisticated bathroom. The tiles are a strong complement to the Carrara marble mosaic tile floor.
8. Geometric tiles. These stunning tiles create a showstopping backsplash. Using just a band between the top of a sink and the bottom of a mirror means you can splurge on a fancy tile without breaking the bank, because you’ll need only a few square feet.
inserts that divide the storage space into separate, easy-to-manage (and easy-to-navigate) sections for different bath-time and grooming essentials, like razors, brushes, combs and skincare products.
If you wish to enhance the mood of your bathroom, line the base of your vanity or medicine cabinet with LED strip lighting, which can also double as a nightlight when you need to use your bathroom late at night or early in the morning, but don’t want to turn on your bright overhead lights in case they jolt you wide awake from your sleepy state.
Granite, quartz, or manmade....all expensive...all have pros/cons
14. Have more than one way of drying out your bathroom. Reducing mold and mildew begins with removing moisture. To do that it’s best to have a multifaceted approach: a great fan that vents to the outside (not into an attic) and an operable window.
