In most bathrooms, a cabinet above or below the sink, a set of pegs behind the door and a towel holder next to the bathing area are standard storage solutions. But of course that’s never been enough. It really isn’t too difficult – there are 9 simple ways to squeeze in more.
1. Fit more into the cabinet
Looking for a quick way to fit in more stuff in your cabinet? Hang a shower caddy or an organiser like this one to its door for shampoos and lotions. Pullout drawers can also be a good way to adjust more of those smaller items. And why even limit this space by only stashing in toiletries? Go ahead, store other household items here too.

A good way to stock more in your open cabinets is by using baskets and containers. These help you segregate your essentials from your gadgets and other supplies. I love baskets – they bury the clutter and keep everything looking neat on the outside.
2. Look for dead areas
The wall behind the commode must be the most under-utilised part of your bathroom. One can do so much with this space – for example, hang basket shelves likes these to store towels.

The shelves can be used to store as well as to display. Add a plant or two, a framed art print, or some vases? See how charming this space looks?
You can take a break from shelves and go for a decorative wall hanging rack, such as this for your linens. Don’t miss how the top of cistern has also been used to keep toilet paper in a matching basket.
3. Put up shelves where cabinets don’t fit
This is a smart way to make the most of those small areas around your sink where it is difficult to put a cabinet. Install individual shelves that fit in the available space; put things you need daily, such as toothbrushes on the lower shelves while your other amenities can take up the upper shelves.

4. Pick wall hangings with multiple pockets
A wall hanging with multiple holders like this comes in handy in a shared bathroom. Each family member gets his/her own holder and this prevents the sink area from getting flooded with bottles and tubes of products.

5. Build racks in the wall
If you have a small bathroom, a built-in-the-wall cabinet helps you store linens and other essentials without taking any extra space and leads to a cleaner look. If there is no built-in space, a free standing shelf can do the job equally well.

6. Experiment with new places for the pegs
Other than the back of the door, look for more areas for pegs. A shelf around the bathtub with hooks lets you keep your towel, loofah and dressing gown within an easy-to-reach distance.

The bottom of a window frame is also another place for an extra set of pegs. It will keep those towels dry too.
7. Bring in a vanity with storage

8. Add multipurpose items
Instead of going for the regular rod, use a towel rack which also has a shelf on top to store things that you often need. The beautiful woodwork here is a bonus.

Instead of keeping your bathroom reads in a basket, install a wall rack that can take in more than just the journals. Take a cue from this sleek toilet paper holder cum magazine rack.
9. Use the spaces above eye level
In case you feel like you don’t have any space left in your bathroom, look up. A simple wooden shelf on top of the door can store those extra rolls of toilet paper; this also keeps them out of reach from your children.

Sorry. Silly question. I don't see any storage in and around the shower area. Do they actually run out of the shower to pick up stuff from the shelves? I don't see my family replacing the supplies in the shelves after a shower. :) Asking because I'm looking for some effective bathroom storage.
