With the dishwasher fully open, I can access all cabinets, including the island. We've also got direct access to the patio door for grilling.

Old cabinets were painted and reused in the island. An overhang on the end provides unobstructive seating. The desk was replaced with new wall oven and microwave plus more storage cabinets.

The narrow island provides accessible work space and better traffic flow from the three entrances through the kitchen.

The main entrance from the foyer was blocked by the peninsula jutting out, with only 36" of clearance to the left.

When the dishwasher was open, it blocked access to the cabinets above and in the peninsula.

The kitchen was nice but the layout was a nuisance. The peninsula obstructed access to upper cabinets and created a barrier in traffic flow. There was no room for chairs at both the table and the peninsula.
