11. Firm: Pramukh Modular KitchenLocation: IndiaI like how the brown and white combine to create a coffee-and-cream-inspired look in this kitchen. The space uses wall-to-wall storage, and also utilises the square footage above the counter, ensuring that there is a place for everything here, while the design isn’t compromised.
1. Firm: H建築スタジオLocation: JapanThe texture, warmth and charm of wood can make any interior look welcoming. The above-counter storage in timber provides a soothing contrast to the pristine white cabinets below, which almost merge with the white walls around. I like the tiny sliver of open storage here, perfect to keep sauces, spices, salt and pepper.
Integrate structural featuresDon’t let pillars supporting an extension prevent you from creating your dream kitchen. They can often be disguised by incorporating them into an island or peninsula. This central support is butted up to an island, its base tucking neatly under the drawers. The units are an eye-catching blue, while the white-painted pillar merges into the background. These are the must-haves for a dream kitchen
Make an island unit work hardCareful positioning of an island will create a double galley without requiring a wall, giving you the perfect working triangle. It also frees up the facing wall – here it’s used as storage for the dining area, the similar wooden finish bridging the gap between the two zones.See how these galley kitchens maximise space
6. This outdoor space by Tao Architecture Pvt. Ltd. is a luxurious lounging spot enhanced with a swimming pool, bar and greenery. The pool chairs on one side are ideal to lie back with a cocktail, while the stone flooring turns to a pebbled band to catch sloshed water and connect with the wooden decking that edges the pool and covers the steps into it. This warm detail looks good and is kind to bare feet – and other tender parts of the anatomy when you sit down to soak your feet in the pool.
Con: Not resistant to stains and scratches. Veneer sheets are softer than laminate sheets. Once the polish layer wears off over time, the veneer becomes susceptible to abrasions. The veneer sheet may bubble or warp if moisture seeps into the core material or if the top layer is exposed to heat. So they are not great options for kitchens, bathrooms and other wet areas.
Pro: Is eco-friendly. Veneers are a renewable resource and they go a long way in economically replacing solid wood applications. One log of timber produces a number of veneered wood slices, boosting its cost-effectiveness. Not only that, pricey veneer sheets can be backed by an inexpensive wood board or plywood board to achieve the desired rich look within a budget.
1. Accentuate with screensScreens help create a room within a room while adding to the aesthetic appeal. In this space, Moriq Interiors demarcates the dining space with wooden slatted screens, which let through light, views and foot traffic. The screens can be swivelled shut to segregate the dining completely when required. This is an ingenious solution in an open-plan living space when you want a little bit of privacy for both the zones.
Last but not the least – smart kitchensYou may need to wait a while to upgrade to this but forewarned is forearmed. Tech in the kitchen is slowly coming of age, although it may take a while to catch on in India. From sensor-activated lights that illuminate the kitchen only when it’s in use to smartphone alerts when dinner’s done to refrigerators alerting you about groceries that are running out, the kitchen of the future is soon going to be a thing of current reality.Read more: 10 Indian Kitchens That Evoke Envy24 Unbelievable Kitchen MakeoversTell us: Which of these upgrades would interest you?
