Exterior
really nice exterior fixtures
cam i have become aware that i do like windows on either side of the fireplace, rather than solid walls/shelves. the arrangement we have right now is actually rather nicely proportioned: shelves flanking fireplace are still 20 inches below top of mantle, allowing for a generous window above them. i really like the windows and use them a lot. Not saying we must keep this whole configuration; just looked at it after looking at photos and realized the proportions are quite nice.
cam I've studied this a bit. I like having windows on either side of the fireplace. this fireplace is way too massive/rocky for me, but I began imagining it on our west wall. problem is we will sit in this room and want to watch tv. we don't like to go elsewhere for tv viewing. not into media rooms. so we are forced into the fireplace/tv combo or something side-by-side? but side-bys put the tv too low and i look at tv through my feet. don't like that.
cam i do like the glass - the feel of the glass - for the south side (not the front).
cam pleasant color, but i'm only seeing two colors and I think three works better.
cam too much flying buttress roof for me, but overall they have created an interesting contemporary house. No real features i'd pick tho. I do like the floating front steps, but don't find them inviting.
cam been trying to figure out if i like the asymmetrical look/curved garage roof. I think it needs a counterbalance somewhere that I can't see. Looks like more of a desert house.
cam Fun. what IS the roof material???? pretty cool tree house.
cam this photo has appeared about 15 times in Exteriors. The lowest level feels neglected and unwelcoming. Can't quite find the door but I don't want our walkouts to feel empty like this does.
cam the white trim pops out too much - too much contrast. calls the eye to it. needs to be different color. too bad.
cam really, a perfectly placed moon. wow. either good photoshopping or good photographer. like the roof lines, which is not much of a surprise by now. My concern is that these roofs look good on two-story houses that distribute their flatness/low pitch. I need to revisit some one-story houses - esp one-story houses that don't have vaulted ceilings to push the overall height up.
cam looks like two baseball caps
cam i've reacted several times now to the same thing - having the pool a bit more integrated with the house. i'm not sure how we could do this, but would like to consider it.
CAM at a glance, it reminds me of the Cedar house. Color, some of the lines. but boy does it need landscaping.
cam doggie door windows? ha
cam too funny!
cam don't care for this house, but do like having a pool that is close to house and intimate feeling.
cam don't like this color. too green even tho it has some muting to it.
cam these are interesting sliders. kinda like the nano folding doors. i like the sliders. but i don't find them practical. we could not keep the cats in, could not control the dogs, and would have birds and possible rabbits inside the house. if we had an enclosed lanai, they would be great. but we don't and won't.
cam this reminds me on a comment i did not make today at our meeting. for some reason, i see the pool aligned in the other direction, east to west, rather than N to S as drawn. It feels less private being perpendicular to the house.
cam ok color as one of the colors.
cam Yay to Manhattan Beach. Used to live there. I like the cedar slats on the eave/soffit. Like the wood trim doors/windows. OMG - what is funny is our address was 121. this would have been in identical location.
cam nice colors. most of the colors I've flagged so far have been in a light sage. Will keep an eye open for some in the taupe family.
cam decent colors.
cam rooflines again !
cam Like the overall feel. the raised section is a bit too raised for me, but overall feel is nice. Pond/pool is awesome. David Barrett does some nice stuff. Arbors/trellis treatment is ok. Would really want to think this through. During winter the dead stems aren't very appealing. Additional comment: cam i see this has a roof garden. Kinda neat. this pool/pond is awesome.
cam like colors. we will likely choose some gray combo, some taupe combo, or something khaki/sage like this. Add on comment: these craftsman houses are always very sweet. I really like them, but in the end I would not design this. I would want a modified version, a tiny bit more contemporary, like we are doing. Stucco. But there is something about their feel that always gets my attention. I find them inviting, so would want to keep whatever we do inviting.
cam funny how this roofline keeps catching my eye.
cam again, eaves too big on unit over garage.
cam wood has such rich tones, doesn't it. I do enjoy wood as accent.
cam nothing to do with this house, but a comment I keep meaning to make. Maria is into BBQing and we have a really nice grill. It would be nice to create an outdoor space (near the house for winter grilling) that incorporates outdoor cooking. Not elaborate, not not as an appendage, either.
cam i find these colors very pleasant. I think the house color is too light for a larger home, but a darker version of it could be the main color and then this color and an off white could be the 3 colors + plus wood.
cam Spare me !
cam too much eave/roof soffit. wings are too big.
cam did i flag this already? i definitely am drawn to this type of roof line. It's basically what we have on Cedar. Always need to be sure there is not too much eave overhang.
cam is this what our dormers would end up looking like as one unit? They kind of stand out a bit too much on this house, but it only has one roof line and we would not. I'm sure you will integrate them differently.
cam i commented on this roll down shade on a different photo. i have always liked these, tho have not seen them as exterior pieces. kinda nice as exterior piece if they create a sort of bug-proof outside room. but bugs are not really our issue. I would consider some sort of shade like this to help with sun/light coming into office and other rooms. I am the type that MUST be able to see out and these to provide some sun block while still retaining visibility.
cam pillars too big, too flared, too dominant
cam these pillars are ok, if we need pillars. not too large. perhaps could be a tiny bit narrower. but ok.
cam nice, simple arch over front porch. would have been better in a warmer wood !
cam Too much roof soffit showing ! too, too much.
cam lights on steps are very cool. nice feel to house.
cam would want to make sure this was not too much awning.
cam interesting that the window trim (on garage at least) flares out on sides, but the pillars don't. kinda isn't harmonious.
cam again, boxy and too contemporary for me
cam do not like the wood slat siding. cheapens the whole house.
cam i think a warmer color for window mullions/trim would be much better. I've been noticing that. I went with warmer trim on the pella windows on cedar and like that.
i emailed this to Anhyka
