wire-brushed, rustic white oak was used for the kitchen cabinetry with a natural matte finish. The cabinetry designer, Homestead Woods, used some glass door fronts and steel accents to modernize the design. This also helped the space feel clean and open. The walls and ceiling were painted a soft white (White Dove by Benjamin Moore) to brighten up the space.” Other special features. Taj Mahal quartzite countertops
“Rigid core” is the luxury vinyl tile (LVT) feature of the moment. Higher-quality luxury vinyl flooring constructed with this type of core offers more stability. Many products are now being constructed with a stone polymer composite (SBC) core rather than a wood polymer composite (WBC). Shown here is the new color Viking Hickory Pearl River from Armstrong’s Empower collection, which features vinyl planks with a rigid stone core.
CUTTING BOARDS: so clever!!!!! Even small details can make your island stand out. Designer Thompson always recommends including integrated cutting boards in the island. Designer Kelly Shepard did that in the Los Angeles kitchen shown here. Check out the two cutting boards tucked away in a vertical slot at the end of the island.
COUNTERTOP: Many design and remodeling pros swear by engineered quartz for its heat- and stain-resistant qualities. ProPacific Builders used quartz for the island in the San Diego kitchen seen here. But quartz isn’t the only player in town. Your remodeling professional might have other options in mind that will work better for your needs and style preferences, including some you might not have heard of. Designer Erica Bryen recommends Neolith, a sintered stone product. “It is one of my all-time favorite materials that can resemble Calacatta marble, any natural stones and slate,” she says. “It’s highly resilient and can be used outdoors too.”
Aquachic: This finish is a stucco product applied over the backer board. You do thinset scratch and brown coats, then two finish coats with the stucco using a pool trowel to achieve a smooth surface. I just completed a very similar shower and used a product called called "Super Shower Finish" made by Merlex Inc. It's basically a Portland cement combined with a polymer powder to make it waterproof.
Raked plaster finish
hand plastered concrete fireplace
Concrete look, hand-plastered backsplash wall (and btw this island is 9 1/2 feet); also LOVE these fixtures
Really like the range in an alcove without a hood and a full wall backsplash (either something like quartz or that gray hand troweled wall in other pic). These beams...
Clever for outlet at island
So much to love here. Wish we could do open shelves next to range. But love the drawers and pulls. The matte island.
This would work on the bank that Ron has designated as "pantry/frig/freezer"
OH MY!!!! Could we have room for appliances???
Would DIE for this storage...
Use shingles to help make the exterior more timeless in mountain community
Love the clean line of this island & the fixtures over it!
An inspiration for how that corner off our existing laundry room could look
Interior Fireplace: I want to do a plaster finish that looks like concrete (or maybe thin concrete?) with big fireplace. Only thing is I want a hearth. I'm also drawn to the shousugiban (sp?) look for the FP. Could be that charred black color with light wood contrast.
Smartest spot might be above oven/micro
Divided storage for cookie sheets & cutting boards
Want to do the paper towel holder like this, deep enough behind it to store additional paper towel rolls
Must have cutting board storage like this
Next to range
In island
Frig/Freezer wall
lowers below big window
Next to range
Lowers by range
In island by sink
Workstation sink; doesn't need to be this big but like the accessories that come with it
Spot for "pantry" could be organized like this
Want range in a recessed alcove like this with counters on either side; smart pullout storage next to range for oils
private and snake-free
