Hamilton apartment
Hi Sophie, I was looking at some of the work that Sheffield Sustainable kitchens have done. I'd not have grey because it reminds me of the winter sky and really affects my mood but the cabinets and counter tops are titillating. SB - completely agree, I too think the grey walls and floor are just a bit too depressing
Great full height panelling with colours that work really well together (but you wouldn't expect to) DP comment - I agree. What I like about this is the colour of the green, like leaves or a hedge. I wonder if I could get green, red, orange and yellow/gold in somehow, maybe through cushions or a throw...
GREAT storage; totally achievable with off the shelf pieces. The white gives a great backdrop and when paired with the bold back, it creates a fab contrast. the black and white rug ties it all together and the bold contrasting colour on the cushion works really well. DP comment - I do love the full height white shelving and the 'blob' of purple colour. I'm not too sure about the monochrome because I think colour lifts my mood.
Lighting is SO important for defining a space, setting an atmosphere and for obvious practicality. Plug in wall lights are a super easy way to give a different type of light and have instant high impact too; much more so than a table or floor lamp, DP comment - I was considering lighting but thought it would be necessary to get an electrician in. I have not come across plug in wall lights before. At first sight, I thought that the way the wires had been hidden was creating a kind of panelled look. Lighting around my couch, where I work, where I eat and prepare food is important to me. I love that massive image! This could be me.
Love how colour has been added within the window reveals. DP comment - I like that zestiness too and was wondering how difficult it might be to tile around a window reveal by myself, Gaudi mosaics come to mind around the kitchen window of a sudden... What I notice in this image is the counter top and backsplash I really like those! This could be me but without white cabinets.#
Really like how colour has been brought into this space without being overwhelming. DP comment - I totally get where you're coming from. I love the defined rectangle of gold. I also love the antique furniture in this. We used to have those chairs but they fell apart. I think they may have been from the '50s or '60s. This could be me!
Ice cream pastels against a predominantly white backdrop with cool Scandi vibes. If you took out the furniture and accessories you're left with a white box but its the ultimate cost effective and practical way to get instant impact. The whole of this house is fantastically open plan, light and airy. DP comment - this looks very upliftingl, contemporary and refreshin.
Colour zoning: this is a pretty extreme example but shows quite a few things: 1. how colour can be used to denote a specific space 2. how colour doesn't have to be limited to walls (it can stretch to ceilings too) 3. if on walls, it doesn't have to cover the whole of it. This could be an interesting idea for us. DP comment - I feel like this is a strong statement and I'm open-minded
Love how the dining table comes off the island, this could be a possibility if our dividing wall cant come down. Great use of tiles on the back wall. most people would limit themselves to tiling the splashback but this creates a real impact because it's not just done for function. the white, glossy tiles will also bounce light around the room really well. DP comment - I love that very island/dining table. This could be me
Ideas for the liatorp again. Also really like the attention to detail with vinyls on the back of the chairs; doesn't have to be names, could be feelings. DP comment - that's real food for though Sophie as I want to make time to practice some calligraphy to hang my inspirational buzzwords around the joint as kind of a vision board. I really like the tiles that define the dining area. This could be me!
Dark and impactful this is from Sheffield sustainable kitchens and features 2 different worktops: bamboo (super sustainable) and stainless steel (great for longevity). I really like how the cabinetry reaches all the way up to the ceiling, maximising space (the Americans are really good at doing this). DP comment - Sophie I was thinking along these lines: dark floor to ceiling cabinetry (or shelving with a deep paint colour or wallpaper behind it) on one side to maximise storage space; counter top space on the other sides; wooden counter tops; but white tiles is my Mum, not me.
this little breakfast nook works really well in this small kitchen, especially backing onto the window. We could expand this concept out for your space, fitting a bigger table in with some proper dining chairs instead of stools. DP comment - this is so cute! I'm open to that idea depending on how it might look. I was thinking that in time, I could purchase an extendable table. I quite like the idea of specific floor tiles which are different from the others to define that kind of space.
Love the bare brick offsetting the warm, heritage blue of the cabinets. Far softer than dark grey/black/navy cabinetry
And green is serene SB- green is a fab colour isn't it? It's so adaptable
