Dream Home Wish List
I love a Juliet balcony
Angled storage for shoes in mudroom
Charging stations for every member of the household
I love this door for privacy for the shower in laundry mudroom
Frosted door on enclosed shower for privacy in laundry mudroom
Recessed niche
Etched glass shower door for laundry mudroom
Shower room to be located within laundry mudroom
Laundry chute
I like the wainscoting on the cubby spaces
I like this extra wide door that enables easier access to the backyard while carrying a basket of washing.
I adore this room with the spiral staircase
Open bottoms instead of drawers in cubbies to prevent scuff marks from shoes. A water bubbler in the mudroom/laundry after arriving home seems just the ticket. Mudroom should be located off the garage so not to carry dirt throughout the house. As a laundry for rainy days, clothes dry through the movement of air. To reduce the need for a dryer, it makes perfect sense to have a fan in the laundry/mud room so clothes that are hung on a pulley system or a dry away solution will dry a lot quicker. Cubby seat to have cushioned seating. A shower & toilet should be incorporated in the laundry/mudroom too.

Love these hanging lights
Tip out drawers for storage like toothbrushes instead of false fronts
Pull out baking station for kneading dough is a fabulous idea.
Backyard facade
Outdoor pavilion
At first glance, I thought the light fixture was a fan, but it’s not. However, as clothes dry through the movement of air, it makes perfect sense to have a fan in the laundry/mud room. Also I do like the pastel blue paired with brass.
Shower seat & rail/grab bar for ageing in place
Consider adding a 3/4 inch supply line to bath & shower for a more consistent faster flow of water
Curbless showers are great especially for ageing in place along with grab bars, but for the water to be able to flow into the drain, the pitch of the tile has to be high enough to flow into the drain. This should be included in the design phase.
Dry clothes the old-fashioned way. Now I'm not asking you to give up your trusty tumble dryer anytime soon, so don't worry. But the English are known for a love of hanging out their laundry the old-fashioned way — especially outdoors to get that fresh-air smell. You might not be ready to go whole hog, but it does still make sense for your laundry space to have somewhere to air dry clothes like delicates or wools. Try this clever idea of suspending a pastel painted ladder from the ceiling. I like this set up for a laundry/mudroom. Cubby spaces, hanging space for drying/ironing & storage. Should include a cabinet for iron, board & dustpan & bucket. Should contain wrapping station inside a cupboard & desk to stand/sit at. Should also contain ample shoe storage as well as storage for sports gear (fishing rods etc). Drying rack - not just for clothes but for herbs too! Also remember to have decent ventilation. Pulley system to air dry clothes is a fantastic idea
Drip-drying location. A drip-dry station in this spacious laundry room allows wet garments to dry without making a mess. In lieu of more cabinetry, this cavity was tiled all over for ultimate water protection. Tip: A bar from the top provides a spot to hang clothes, and the floor drain guarantees there is no standing water.
The drying rack above the sink pictured here is a great way to save energy, but you'll want to get rid of the moisture in the air, so install a dehumidifier or an exhaust fan ducted to the exterior.
Floor drain. Even if you don't have a specialised drip-dry spot, a floor drain can be a great idea in your laundry room. Not only does it make everyday cleaning easy, it can also prevent serious damage if your washing machine ever leaks or overflows.
Include false wall behind TV to allow for ease of use for electrical cords. Acoustics are important when installing a sound system. Put your sound system on one of the far ends of the room, along a short wall rather than the long wall. This allows the sound to travel out and diffuse and reflect toward the listener. Tiered floor. And would have to have shelving on three sides to allow for storage of blu-ray collection.
This turning wheel uses a "chain & crack" system. However, it could be used very well for a dumb waiter!
Perfect for loading groceries from the car to transport to the walk in pantry
Rocking chairs & clock.
OK, so this one really is in Beverly Hills. What makes it especially noteworthy is the exotic theme. After all, why can’t a patio look Moroccan? Or French? Or Southwestern? We get so accustomed to seeing the same thing, we sometimes overlook the possibilities.
Backyard verandah - I would love this facade for the backyard with 2 sets of French doors
Places to remember to install power points! Hallways - for lighting & vacuuming, kartcher, gerni, outside deck - for party/fairy lights, up high if you’re going to mount a TV on the wall (both inside & out), phone, USB ports, iPad charging stations be it within a drawer or on counter top - in the kitchen & study, bedside table lamps & alarm clocks, bathroom vanity in a mirrored cabinet with lots of outlets for more than one person at a time (ie hair dryers, curling/straightening irons, electric shaver, electric toothbrush) with excellent exhaust system), electric gates - for the bleeding obvious!
