Surat Houzz: Muted Colours, Textures & Materials Define This Home
A facade with geometrical layout and bedrooms with unique personalities steal the show in this home by Studio 17
Co-founders Ankit Sojitra and Mayur Mangukiya of Studio 17 were asked to create a home that was modern with an understated design scheme. “The homeowners wanted a very subtle and calm home – nothing more, nothing less! They wanted interiors with an interplay of silent colours – something that resonates with their personality,” says Mangukiya.
According to the designers, the synergy of angles, vertices and lines lends a three-dimensional depth to the facade and makes it one of the house’s most interesting features. The two cube-shaped layouts give a sense of equal balance to the architecture and create a dynamic exterior. The Red Agra stone restricts harsh sunlight from entering the house and keeps the interiors cool. Aluminium fringes bring in privacy and offset the vibrant foliage that flanks the main gate.

The entrance to the home is from the first floor. Here, a seating area, curios and artwork embellish an inviting foyer. The earthiness of the grey textured walls is offset by the red stone and the vibrant orange hues of the artwork. Coated in black metal, the circular door handle and vertical accents add character to the space.

“As one enters the home, they are greeted by an open living and dining area partitioned by a free-standing TV unit. William Grey Italian marble with golden veins adorn the floor,” Sojitra says.
Sofas upholstered in shades of nude and a subdued blue chair offer ample seating.

The coffee tables take centre stage in the room while pops of verdure and a sculpture in the corner add grace and vitality.

Placed centrally between the living room and an L-shaped open kitchen is a circular dining table. The brown marble and nude interiors give continuity to the colour palette.
On the upper level are three bedrooms. This master bedroom has a screened headboard behind the bed that steals the attention.
In this ensuite, the warm notes of the wooden wardrobe juxtapose the off-white marble.
In the second bedroom, an upholstered headboard and brass accents on the wall bring in subtle luxury. The bed back is made of stained ash-dyed veneer. Open shelves on the side of the bed offer storage to display tchotchke.
Pops of brass inlay in the tiles and faucets add glamour to the space.
In this bedroom, the embossed lines of the white marble breaks the monotony of the plain surface.
The bed has an enveloping headboard in green with complementing side tables.
In contrast to the bedroom’s muted hues, the pure black stone with golden and grey veins in the ensuite bathroom oozes luxury. The reflective glass on the wardrobe creates the illusion of a bigger space.
