This series of pictures, from a Swedish remodel, is probably the closest we can find to evoking the feeling of what we’d like in our home. This is a space where you just want to spend time.

Q

Photo

Our ideal home space would have the kitchen as the heart, not just for cooking but for gathering and being in. The traditional kitchens of 99% of homes seem so ill-suited to that goal. This one, on the other hand, invites you in, makes you want to be part of it yet is entirely connected to the other communal spaces in the home.

Q

Photo

The cabinetry finishes and floor colorings, for example, are not what we love about these pictures: again, it is the “feel” of it all. The idea of togetherness it evokes.
