Californio Style
Steel industrial style windows would work. Keeps interior and exterior trim costs down.
Skip the decorative ends but the expressed structure of the steel connections and plastered concrete columns is a thought.
Pool area thought.
On the kitchen side of the communal building, we need a loading and trash area and a place to hide the propane tank.
The portal to the orchard?
This style of window.
I like this plank style door but manufactured doors may be the way to go unless the only solid doors are to the bath/shower areas.
I like the neutral tone of these plastered walls.
Ignore everything else in this photo except the ceiling!
...and here it is. We should have boatloads of material to use for the lid.
I prefer sawn lumber beams...easier to anchor and flatter for the decking above. The decking on this one is close to the sapling round ceiling I’m looking for.
The window seat from outside. This gives some push/pull to the regularity of a larger rectangular footprint.
On the non-view side, the narrow slot windows allow light but reduce heat gain.
This is a bit more lux than I see the end result but the use of colored plaster in the WC would give a similar affect. I’d push for a more raw concrete basin.
Though flatter than I think our site would afford, walking off the orchard behind the communal area with a timber pergola entry?
High ceilings with upper clerestory windows. No tile. Polished concrete floors are cheaper. Affords the opportunity to use zoned radiant heat for comfort.
Straw bale gives the walls this depth. I see the window seat with a madrone plank top.
The doors are drecky and the furnishings over the top but the timber and plaster look is a goal.
We’re not going to be allowed to put in a wood burning fireplace I think, unless I’m mistaken about the different Air Quality Control Boards’ requirements. Using gas for an indoor gathering area is doable though.
Reflecting on the wood to use...I like the idea of using the madrone for the lintels.
Cabins?
Envision this with rough sawn raw timber beams and wood plank (or round branch wood) ceilings.
