The reveal:
NaturalSeal + Traffic HD
1st layer: Bona NaturalSeal
2nd layer: Bona Traffic HD Satin
3rd layer: Bona Traffic HD Matte
I'm very pleased with the end result. I decided to embrace rather than fight the natural redness...and there *will* be some redness. My experience was the same as Ryan. NaturalSeal seems best way to maintain that beautiful freshly sanded look, but the color will deepen slightly and the contrast increases after the NaturalSeal is added.
My contractor was familiar with these products and uses Traffic HD almost exclusively. He recommended satin layer, then matte. He likes the way the satin goes on, and said I won't experience satin "coming through" with wear.
He told me our red oak is #2 Common, also known as Builder’s (i.e., cheaper) grade. The darker patches, inconsistent color boards, and knots are called "character markings" in the industry. I was worried initially, but rather than detract, I think they help give the floors dimension and "character". But that rustic look may not be to your taste. I tried to include photos that show the red as i see it. As Julie has mentioned it changes throughout the day.
I'm in Chicago and would highly recommend my contractor, Michael at https://www.hardwood-flooring-chicago.com/ who was recommended to me by a friend who also had a great experience.
This thread provided a lot of great information so I wanted to share my findings with others.
Go for it!
