This is a very formal take on framing the fire pit space. Instead of using a privet hedge we could use a tall sedum variety, specifically Autumn Joy Seedum as a hedge.

I like the grass under the aspen looking trees. It creates an low maintenance yard scape but makes a nice statement. Maybe mixing in one other flower species would create a great compliment.
Also notice the grass framing the wall, which in turn create a living larger wall.

I like the plant palette. You have big tufted grass, some sage and then more of a dark green shrub. Also the material is simple and minimalistic.
