Flower Bookshelf Ideas
Single sliding door to hide TV or bookshelves when watching. Can be made from stained wood, painted wood or semi opaque glass. [I like this look a lot. Would need to think about how this much wood works with the current flooring] WENDY: It was not necessarily the exact wood as the combination of wood, open shelving, and closing off the TV
TV can remain above fireplace and be hidden when not watching but prefer to move TV lower and to the left side of the fireplace. [I'm inclined to agree that it will be better to place tv to the left side of fireplace. My one question is whether a bracket could be strong enough to not only pull out from wall but also be angled L-R since not all seating can be directly in front of it in my floor plan.] WENDY: Yes, they definitely make brackets exactly for this purpose.
Selected this photo to show the idea of non-symmetrical shelves. Also thought it demonstrates how shelves could go across the mantel so the wall becomes one cohesive look and leave open space for art. Could also continue look on left wall but it would be nice to keep it on the one wall and use the left wall for art.
This photo is a bit sparse but wanted to show an example of using different materials like wood and metal. If we went with this idea, we would add more wood shelving. Also the metal can be any type, not necessarily brass. [I think I get the gist and although tis execution in metals and sparsity is not my style, preferring steel colors] WENDY: So if we use metal in a more intricate design, will use steel or similar.
Not very interesting except that it demonstrates one continuous look across the entire wall. [I'm not sure how this would work since I can't go right against the window on the other side of the fireplace and agree that this is not super interesting, even feels a little overpowering] WENDY: If we want to go across entire wall with some type of look (not necessarily this one), we could have it stop short of right side at the window.
Another example of stained asymmetrical shelving in an interesting pattern and white painted doors. [Agree this is interesting although wood too dark for me (although asking myself whether my kitchen cabinets might make a darker wood the better choice and would love your advice). This seems a way to leave tv above fireplace. How would this work on only one side of the fireplace though -- by not reaching the ends of either end?]
Suspend shelving from ceiling, or at least the appearance that it is suspended with metal rods. [What most struck me about this one is how it allows for great use of the space by the window (to the other side of the fireplace) which I think might open new ideas for a 'whole' look across that wall, since the bookshelves can't run into the window on that side. Also, if we created a similar small workspace here, then I could eliminate my existing tall wood shelving/desk, opening up that whole wall. I really like this use of the space and the apparent suspension of shelving to create continuity with shelving on the other side of the fireplace, I don't especially love these materials. Combining this concept with the shelves in the next photo (think steel/wood) might be really great]
Selected this photo as it appears to have wood vertical panels and metal shelves but a little hard to tell. Mixing materials adds interest and texture. [I really like this look also. I can't tell the materials either, including whether they're different -- wood and metal -- but I think the idea sounds intriguing, provided the shelves can be thin like these. This looks fabulous with art displayed. I'm wondering whether these would look just as good with books on most of them and also whether there would be a way to 'conceal' a tv in this type of shelving...]
Simply shows how TV can be placed to the side of the fireplace. Also, we could possibly have open shelves with painted wall behind in white or a color(s). [Yes, I like this idea of placing the tv to the side very much and would just need to know that the tv would be viewable by people not sitting directly across from it but also on the other side of the fireplace. As for the rest of this 'look,' it's interesting with the grey but given I have another face on my fireplace I'm not sure what is plausible for me in this regard, whether I can change the fireplace itself, the current stone, etc. The wood is not as compelling for me as some of the other samples though I can see how this grey stone looks better with wood than metal...] WENDY: I'm sorry if it's confusing as I wasn't thinking of the gray stone when referring to this photo but rather the TV placement and the option of having the walls show behind the open shelves. Regarding viewing the TV, if it was installed on a bracket, it could be moved when needed depending on how many people and where they are sitting.
Combination of glass shelves and wood shelves, lighting, and the mixture of flat painted doors and open shelves. Although, we'd need many more open shelves. [Well I actually do like the light and warmth of this combination with the interior wood although that's too much white showing for me. It's an interesting way to build shelves as well as some storage beneath though...not sure how we could create a coherent concept across to the other side of the fireplace with this though] WENDY: Agree with your last comment but I have a few ideas of using this general concept of the lighted shelves and warmth it creates.
