Aub: This is default kitchen setup for me, albeit with longer bar to accommodate 3-4 stools (and 4 if we won't have a dining room table and plan to eat around the fire pit when guests come). Note that the BBQ, fridge (with counter space over it), and burner(s) are along the non-bar side - and the bar stools face back towards the house.
Aub/Cin: We are saving this image b/c this was what Cindy was thinking in our meeting with you: -Large fireplace as centerpiece. -TV/screen over it with arbor covering. -Seating in front with a table, so we face each other for convos. -And possibly even grill and fridge built in as well. BUT...we suspect based on last conversation, and oak tree realities, that this is not an optimal config for our yard.
Aub: I like the spacing distance around the fire pit, allowing for more seating. Ideally we can have 8 sitting comfortably, which likely means at least one sofa and four chairs (3/4 + 4) and maybe two sofas and two chairs (6/7/8 + 2). At the same time, we don't want to lose the intimacy of a single conversation.
Aub: Note retaining wall more for overflow seating only, not really a bench itself.
Aub: Nice to have steps and seating flow together.
Aub: Nice to have steps and seating flow together.
Aub: What are pros/cons for square vs. round?
Aub: Another approach - have retaining wall and just push furniture (like sectional) up against it.
afraid stone is not going to be comfortable to sit on
Aub: Will cushions soften the stone? Will they slide out of place?
Aub: Do we want more rustic stone for fire pit and stairs up to artist studio?
Aub: will wood benches be more comfortable? I love the look, but how is the maintenance?
Aub: Super clean looking L shape formation. Is this too modern for our backyard?
